FIRE KILLED A WOMAN IN JOHNSTOWN SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THE BLAZE BROKE OUT AT AN APARTMENT IN BUILDING 8 AT THE OAKHURST HOMES.  CAMBRIA CORONER DENNIS KWIATKOWSKI SAYS THE YOUNG WOMAN SUFFERED BURNS AND APPARENT SMOKE INHALATION AND HE WILL PERFORM AN AUTOPSY TODAY.  THE STATE POLICE FIRE MARSHAL IS INVESTIGATING, BUT OFFICIALS THINK THE FIRE WAS ACCIDENTAL.

THE INDIANA COUNTY CORONER SAYS A TODDLER FOUND UNRESPONSIVE IN A BATHTUB DIED OF ACCIDENTAL DROWNING.  IT HAPPENED AT A HOME IN WHITE TOWNSHIP.   HIS MOTHER SAYS HE WAS LEFT IN THE TUB WITH TWO SIBLINGS FOR ONLY A FEW MINUTES.

A 26-YEAR-OLD MAN GOES ON TRIAL TODAY FOR THE KILLING OF A MENTALLY-DISABLED WOMAN IN GREENSBURG.  RICKY SMYRNES COULD FACE THE DEATH PENALTY IN THE DEATH OF 30-YEAR-OLD JENNIFER DAUGHERTY.  DEFENSE LAWYERS ARE EXPECTED TO CLAIM HE IS MENTALLY ILL.

2 MEN ARE DEAD IN GALLITZIN, CAMBRIA COUNTY, AND STATE POLICE BELIEVE IT WAS AN ACCIDENT.  22 YEAR OLD RYAN LOUTTIT AND 33 YEAR OLD JAMES FLAUGH JUNIOR WERE FOUND DEAD SATURDAY AFTERNOON INSIDE FLAUGH’S HOUSE ON FOREST STREET.   DEPUTY CORONER PETE LONG TELLS THE ALTOONA MIRROR THERE WERE NO ILLEGAL DRUGS IN THE HOUSE, BUT LOTS OF PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION. HE THINKS THE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL BE FOUND IN THE TOXICOLOGY REPORT WHICH WON’T BE AVAILABLE FOR WEEKS.

DAMAGES ARE ESTIMATED AT OVER 150-THOUSAND DOLLARS FOLLOWING A GARAGE FIRE YESTERDAY IN BRISBIN STREET IN HOUTZDALE, CLEARFIELD COUNTY.  ACCORDING TO THE POLICE REPORT, A JEEP, JOHN DEERE TRACTOR, 2 HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLES, AND VARIOUS TOOLS WERE DESTROYED. 

NO ONE WAS INJURED AND THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

PENNDOT SAYS THE BRIDGE THAT CARRIES ROUTE 56 TRAFFIC OVER BRUSH CREEK IN BRUSH VALLEY TOWNSHIP IS GOING TO BE REPLACED AND THAT WORK IS TO START THIS WEEK, SO TRAFFIC DELAYS ARE EXPECTED.  THE BRIDGE, BUILT IN 1924, CARRIES MORE THAN FOUR THOUSAND VEHICLES OVER THE CREEK EVERY DAY.  THE WORK IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED IN MAY OF 2014.
