A FIRE ALONG THE 100 BLOCK OF ELEVENTH STREET IN WINDBER HAS LEFT A FAMILY HOMELESS.  THE MOTHER WAS AT HOME AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, BUT MADE IT OUT OK.  THE HEAT WAS A BIG PROBLEM, WITH TWO FIREFIGHTERS GOING TO THE HOSPITAL FOR HEAT EXHAUSTION AND SMOKE INHALATION.  IT’S KNOW THE FIRE STARTED IN THE KITCHEN AND DESTROYED THE HOME IN ABOUT AN HOUR. A STATE POLICE FIRE MARSHAL IS INVESTIGATING THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE.

BACK IN FEBRUARY, A FIRE DESTROYED 4 APARTMENTS AND 2 BUSINESSES ALONG NORTH 3RD STREET IN CLEARFIELD…NOW THAT BLAZE HAS BEEN RULED ACCIDENTAL. THE BLAZE ORIGINATED ALONG THE WEST WALL OF A 2ND FLOOR APARTMENT DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

THREE THIEVES TOOK OFF WITH TWO BRAND NEW DISPLAY I-PHONES FROM FREEDOM WIRELESS IN SOMERSET LAST NIGHT AND POLICE CHASED THEM ON THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE, BUT THEY GOT AWAY.  THE THIEVES WILL QUICKLY LEARN THE PHONES ARE WORTHLESS, HOWEVER, BECAUSE WHEN THEY TRY TO ACTIVATE THEM, IT WILL COME UP THAT THEY WERE STOLEN AND THEY CAN’T BE ACTIVATED.  RETAIL THEFT CHARGES ARE RELATIVELY MINOR, BUT SINCE THE MEN FLED POLICE THEY FACE MORE SERIOUS CHARGES NOW.

IN FAYETTE COUNTY … BAIL IS SET AT 100-THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THE DUNBAR TOWNSHIP MAN WHO STAGED A 7-HOUR STANDOFF WITH POLICE EARLIER THIS WEEK.  THOMAS BAKER, JUNIOR ALLEGEDLY BEAT HIS STEPDAUGHTER AND PUNCHED HIS WIFE BEFORE GRABBING A SHOTGUN AND HIDING IN HIS BASEMENT.  MOM AND DAUGHTER FLED THE HOME AND CALLED POLICE, WHO EVENTUALLY COERCED THE 39-YEAR-OLD FROM HIS HOME MONDAY.  BAKER IS DUE BACK IN COURT NEXT WEEK FOR A PRELIMINARY HEARING ON MULTIPLE CHARGES.

 STATE POLICE HAVE RELEASED THE NAME OF THE MOTORCYCLIST WHO DIED IN A WRECK MONDAY MORNING IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY.  STATE POLICE SAY A CAR DRIVEN BY 84 YEAR OLD KASPAR ANTHONY OF WELLSVILLE NEW YORK TURNED IN FRONT OF A BIKE ALONG THE BIGLER-PHILIPSBURG HIGHWAY.  59 YEAR OLD HARRY LEGO OF PHILIPSBURG, WAS EJECTED AND PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE.  ANTHONY AND HIS PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED.

AFTER RECEIVING TIPS FROM COMMUNITY MEMBERS, STATE POLICE IN BEDFORD COUNTY SAY THEY’VE BROKEN UP A METH OPERATION ALONG BAREFOOT ROAD IN ALUM BANK AND 25 YEAR OLD BROOK MALIA IS IN CUSTODY.  INSIDE THE HOUSE, THEY FOUND ALL THE INGREDIENTS FOR MAKING A BATCH OF METH.  MORE ARRESTS ARE EXPECTED.
