A LATE NIGHT FIRE IN JOHNSTOWN HAS DAMAGED A DUPLEX IN THE MOXHAM SECTION OF JOHNSTOWN.  IT HAPPENED AT ABOUT 10:30 LAST NIGHT ALONG THE 700 BLOCK OF PARK AVENUE.  AUTHORITIES SAY ABOUT A HALF DOZEN PEOPLE LIVED IN THE DUPLEX …BUT EVERYONE GOT OUT OK.

DONATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED AT WATSON INSURANCE IN JOHNSTOWN … TO HELP THE FAMILY AFFECTED BY A WEEKEND FIRE IN WEST TAYLOR TOWNSHIP, CAMBRIA COUNTY.  THE SATURDAY NIGHT FIRE DESTROYED THE FAMILY’S HOME AND KILLED SEVERAL PETS.  AUTHORITIES SAY MISTY BORING’S HUSBAND WAS TAKING HER TO WORK AFTER DROPPING OFF THEIR FOUR MONTH OLD DAUGHTER AT HER GRANDPARENT’S HOME.  THERE IS NO WORD YET WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE.

FLAGS ARE BEING FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA IN HONOR OF THE STATE’S 38TH GOVERNOR.  WILLIAM WARREN SCRANTON DIED OF A BRAIN HEMORRHAGE AT HIS HOME IN CALIFORNIA.  IN ADDITION TO HEADING THE KEYSTONE STATE FROM 1963 TO 1967, SCRANTON WAS A WORLD WAR TWO PILOT AND EVENTUALLY SERVED AS U.S. AMBASSADOR TO THE UNITED NATIONS.  GOVERNOR SCRANTON WAS 96.

TOLLS ON THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE ARE GOING UP AGAIN.  AS OF JANUARY 1ST, CASH CUSTOMERS WILL PAY 12-PERCENT MORE AND E-Z PASS CUSTOMERS WILL SEE A TWO-PERCENT HIKE.  THE INCREASE COINCIDES WITH THE TURNPIKE’S ANNUAL 450-MILLION-DOLLAR PAYMENT TO PENN-DOT FOR ROADWORK.

THE PRELIMINARY HEARING FOR FORMER PENN STATE OFFICIALS GRAHAM SPANIER, TIM CURLEY, AND GARY SCHULTZ IS CONTINUING THIS AFTERNOON.   A FORMER EMPLOYEE TESTIFIED THAT SHE REMOVED A CONFIDENTIAL FILE ON JERRY SANDUSKY FROM OLD MAIN AND DELIVERED IT TO SCHULTZ AFTER HIS ARREST, BUT SHE SAID SCHULTZ DIDN’T ASK HER FOR THE FILE AND A FORMER PROSECUTOR WANTED HER TO IMPLICATE HER FORMER BOSS. SHE WAS GIVEN IMMUNITY.   THE FILES CONTAIN HANDWRITTEN NOTES SCHULTZ TOOK WHEN HE WAS INFORMED OF A 1998 SHOWER INCIDENT INVOLVING SANDUSKY AS WELL AS ONE PAGE OF NOTES HE TOOK AFTER THE 2001 SHOWER INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO HIM.
