CLASSES WERE CANCELLED AT THE PORTAGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TODAY … AFTER A FIRE DAMAGED THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL’S ROOF.  THE FIRE DESTROYED A PORTION OF THE ROOF AND THERE WAS ALSO A LOT OF WATER DAMAGE INSIDE.  THE FIRE WAS REPORTED AT ABOUT 2:30 THIS MORNING AFTER IT WAS SPOTTED BY A JANITOR.  NO WORD YET ON WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE.

THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE JOHNSTOWN REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY HAS BEEN FIRED … AND FACES CHARGES … AFTER AUTHORITIES SAY HE STARTED A FAKE COMPANY AND BILLED CONEMAUGH  HEALTH SYSTEM FOR 130-THOUSAND DOLLARS.  RON REPAK IS ALSO THE TARGET OF AN FBI INVESTIGATION.  THE AUTHORITY BOARD KNEW ABOUT THE ISSUE FOR SOME TIME, BUT DIDN’T ACT TO GIVE THE FBI TIME FOR ITS INVESTIGATION.  INVESTIGATORS SAY REPAK STARTED A COMPANY CALLED “DIVERSIFIED DEVELOPMENT TECHNOLOGIES”  AND BILLED THE HOSPITAL FOR WORK SUPPOSEDLY DONE ON THE JOHNSTOWN TECHNOLOGY PARK.  ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT DEBRA WALTER ALSO HAS RESIGNED.

POLICE RELEASED MORE INFORMATION ABOUT A SHOOTING IN THE MOXHAM SECTION OF JOHNSTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT.   POLICE SAY ONE VICTIM AND ONE SUSPECT WERE SHOT … AND THEY WERE SHOT BY THE SAME BULLET.  THERE WAS A PACKAGE CONTAINING A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MARIJUANA THAT WAS INVOLVED IN THE DISPUTE.  POLICE ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR TWO OTHERS THAT WERE INVOLVED.

CLEAN UP IS UNDERWAY AT THE PORTAGE AREA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AFTER AN EARLY MORNING FIRE DAMAGED THE ROOF.  THE FIRE WAS SPOTTED BY A JANITOR AT ABOUT 2:30 THIS MORNING.  FIRE CREWS QUICKLY CONTAINED THE FIRE TO THE ROOF, BUT A PORTION OF THE ROOF WAS DAMAGED AND THERE WAS WATER DAMAGE INSIDE THE BUILDING, TOO.  NO WORD YET ON WHAT STARTED THE FIRE.

THE FAMILY OF ROBERT WILLIAMS MADE ANOTHER PLEA YESTERDAY FOR ANYONE WHO KNOWS WHO KILLED HIM LAST MONTH.  HE WAS SHOT INSIDE HIS RICHLAND TOWNSHIP HOME.  CRIMESTOPPERS HAS UNVEILED A NEW APPROACH … A BILLBOARD WITH THE VICTIM’S PICTURE … AND THE WORDS “YOU KNOW WHO KILLED ME…”

UNDER THE LOOMING “SEQUESTER” NATIONAL BUDGET CUTS, ABOUT 35-HUNDRED EMPLOYEES OF THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF PRISONS IN PENNSYLVANIA RECEIVED NOTICE YESTERDAY THAT THEY LIKELY WILL HAVE TO TAKE A 10 PERCENT PAY CUT BY WORKING REDUCED HOURS BEGINNING IN APRIL AND CONTINUING UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER. A UNION REPRESENTATIVE SAYS ALL AFFECTED EMPLOYEES WOULD NEED TO TAKE 14 UNPAID DAYS OFF. THAT INCLUDES THOSE AT THE FEDERAL PRISON IN LORETTO.
