ONE MAN WAS QUESTIONED BY POLICE IN THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK ROBBERY THIS WEEK IN STOYSTOWN, SOMERSET COUNTY … BUT HE WAS THEN RELEASED.  AUTHORITIES SAY HE IS NOT A SUSPECT … AND WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE ROBBERY.

A STUDENT AT CENTRAL CAMBRIA MIDDLE SCHOOL IS BEING CHARGED IN A CASE OF BULLYING.  SEVERAL STUDENTS CAME FORWARD SAYING THEY WERE ASSAULTED BY THE 12 YEAR OLD.  NO FURTHER INFORMATION IS YET AVAILABLE.

IN INDIANA COUNTY … A PAIR OF 21-YEAR-OLD LOWES EMPLOYEES ARE FACING CHARGES FOR STEALING MORE THAN 16-THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM THEIR EMPLOYER.  JOSEPH CHUNKALA AND DAVID COCHRAN ADMITTED YESTERDAY TO A SCHEME INVOLVING CASH PURCHASES.  THE MEN RESEARCHED PREVIOUS TRANSACTIONS, CREATED PHONY RETURNS, AND POCKETED THE CASH.

THREE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ARRESTED IN BELLEFONTE, AFTER AUTHORITIES FOUND BAGS OF HEROIN AND BATH SALTS AND CASH DURING A SEARCH WARRANT. ALL THREE ARE NOW IN THE CENTRE COUNTY JAIL.

IN FAYETTE COUNTY … A UNIONTOWN MAN IS CONVICTED OF SEXUALLY ABUSING THE CHILD OF A FAMILY FRIEND FROM THE TIME SHE WAS SEVEN UNTIL THE GIRL TURNED 11.  NOW 13-YEARS-OLD, THE GIRL TESTIFIED SHE WAS INAPPROPRIATELY TOUCHED DURING VISITS TO JOHN DALE STEWART'S HOME, A CHARGED STEWART DENIED.  THE FAYETTE COUNTY JURY DELIBERATED LESS THAN THREE HOURS BEFORE ANNOUNCING THEIR VERDICT AGAINST THE 64-YEAR-OLD.

THE STATE SUPREME COURT HAS UPHELD NEW LEGISLATIVE MAPS THAT WILL BE PLACE FOR THE 2013 ELECTION.  THE FIRST VERSION OF THE 2012 REDISTRICTING MAPS APPROVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY WAS THROWN   OUT BY THE COURT BECAUSE THE NEW LINES DIVIDED TOO MANY COUNTIES, MUNICIPALITIES AND COMMUNITIES INTO DIFFERENT DISTRICTS.  THE NEWS MAPS ARE BASED ON POPULATION SHIFTS THAT HAVE OCCURRED SINCE THE 2000 CENSUS.  IN OUR AREA, BEDFORD COUNTY WILL MOVE FROM THE 30TH DISTRICT OF SENATOR JOHN EICHELBERGER TO THE 35TH DISTRICT OF JOHN WOZNIAK.  MANY DEMOCRATS SAY THE ENTIRE PROCESS WAS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE POLITICAL ADVANTAGE TO THE MAJORITY REPUBLICAN PARTY.

A POLICE CHASE ENDED YESTERDAY WHEN CAMBRIA COUNTY SHERIFF BOB KOLAR WRESTLED A SWITCHBLADE FROM THE HAND OF 446 YEAR OLD ROBERT PREBELLA.  POLICE TRIED TO SERVE A WARRANT IN THE REVLOC AREA, BUT PREBELLA FLED AND LED THEM ON A CHASE FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES UNTIL HE CRASHED HIS CAR INTO A GATE AT CENTRAL CAMBRIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.  PREBELLA THEN GOT OUT OF THE CAR WITH A BEER IN ONE HAND AND A BLADE IN THE OTHER AND THREATENED TO CUT HIS OWN THROAT. KOLAR WAS ABLE TO MAKE HIM DROP THE KNIFE.  HE’S FACING A LONG LIST OF CHARGES.

A WESTMORELAND COUNTY JURY YESTERDAY SENTENCED 52 YEAR OLD KEVIN MURPHY OF INDIANA COUNTY TO DEATH FOR THE 2009 SHOOTING DEATHS OF HIS MOTHER, SISTER AND ELDERLY AUNT.   DELIBERATIONS LASTED ABOUT 7 HOURS.  THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY SAYS MURPHY KILLED THE WOMEN BECAUSE THEY DISAPPROVED OF HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH A MARRIED WOMAN.  AN APPEAL WILL BE FILED SOON.
