A DEADLY FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION IN INDIANA COUNTY.  THE COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE IDENTIFIED THE VICTIM AS 59 YEAR OLD TERRY PEASE.  HE DIED WHEN FLAMES SWEPT THROUGH HIS HOME ON BUCKLEY ROAD IN ARMSTRONG TOWNSHIP.  A STATE POLICE FIRE MARSHAL IS INVESTIGATING.

A 22-YEAR-OLD MAN IS DEAD, AFTER USING A ROPE SWING TO PLUNGE INTO SLIPPERY ROCK CREEK.  AUTHORITIES SAID MAZZARNEY KIYHAM SANFORD WAS WITH A GROUP OF FRIENDS LAST NIGHT WHEN HE WENT UNDERWATER IN THE FAST-MOVING CREEK.  HIS DEATH WAS RULED ACCIDENTAL.

IN SOMERSET COUNTY … POLICE AND THE “SOMERSET COUNTY DRUG FREE COMMUNITIES” HELD A MEETING LAST NIGHT TO HELP RESIDENTS LEARN MORE ABOUT METH … HOW IT IS COOKED AND WHAT TO LOOK FOR.  POLICE SAY THE PUBLIC IS A BIG HELP WHEN IT COMES TO SPOTTING METH LABS AND ALERTING POLICE.   IN MARCH, A METH LAB WAS DISCOVERED IN MEYERSDALE  AND IN JANUARY A METH LAB WAS BUSED AT AN APARTMENT IN SOMERSET.

AN INDIANA COUNTY POWER PLANT IS OFF THE HOOK WITH AN ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP, AFTER PASSING STIFFER AIR-QUALITY TESTS.  HOMER CITY GENERATING STATION IS CURRENTLY UPGRADING ITS FACILITY WITH A 750-MILLION-DOLLAR PROJECT TO REDUCE POLLUTION.  THE SIERRA CLUB HAS AGREED TO BACK OFF, AND STATE REGULATORS MADE A NEW PERMIT OFFICIAL LAST WEEKEND.

THE FAMILY OF JOE PATERNO IS SUING THE NCAA.  THE PATERNO FAMILY ATTORNEY AND A SPOKESMAN APPEARED ON THE NBC SPORTS NETWORK SHOW "COSTAS TONIGHT" YESTERDAY TO DISCUSS THE LEGAL ACTION.  THE LAWSUIT'S AIM IS TO REVERSE THE NCAA SANCTIONS ON PENN STATE AND TO RESTORE THE REPUTATION OF THE LATE JOE PATERNO, THE SCHOOL'S LONGTIME FOOTBALL COACH.

6 ILLINOIS RESIDENTS ARE CHARGED WITH DRIVING TO PENNSYLVANIA LAST WEEK TO SCAM MONEY FROM LOCAL BANKS.  THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES SAYS THEY WERE ARRESTED TRYING TO PASS FRAUDULENT CHECKS AT M & T BANK ON NORTH ATHERTON STREET IN STATE COLLEGE.  2 OF THE SUSPECTS WAIVED THEIR PRELIMINARY HEARINGS YESTERDAY. CHARGES AGAINST THE OTHER 4 WERE BOUND OVER FOR TRIAL FOLLOWING A HEARING.

THE STATE IS MAKING AVAILABLE TO BUSINESSES AND ORGANIZATIONS NATURAL GAS VEHICLE GRANTS.  IT’S FOR GROUPS THAT PURCHASE OR CONVERT MEDIUM TO LIGHTWEIGHT NATURAL GAS VEHICLES.

IN FAYETTE COUNTY … THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF EAGLES IN CONNELLSVILLE WILL BE GETTING A COPY OF THE CONTROVERSIAL TEN COMMANDMENTS MONUMENT THAT CURRENTLY SITS AT THE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL.  A LAWSUIT FILED LAST YEAR CLAIMS THE STATUE THAT WAS INSTALLED ON SCHOOL GROUNDS NEARLY 60 YEARS AGO IS VIOLATING STUDENTS CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS.  A COMMITTEE NAMED "THOU SHALL NOT MOVE" HAS BEEN FORMED TO PLACE COPIES OF THE STONE MONUMENT AT VARIOUS PLACES AROUND TOWN.
