JOHNSTOWN POLICE SAY A SUSPECT IS IN CUSTODY AFTER A SHOOTING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.  ABOUT 2:30, COPS WERE CALLED TO THE GIANT EAGLE PARKING LOT IN THE WEST END. ONE MAN HAD BEEN SHOT AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL…THEN POLICE LEARNED THE SUSPECTED GUNMAN WAS INSIDE A NEARBYAPARTMENT ON FAIRFIELD AVENUE.  THE SPECIAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM WAS CALLED IN TO EVACUATE MORE THAN A DOZEN RESIDENTS…THEN THEY MOVED IN AND TOOK THE SUSPECT INTO CUSTODY SHORTLY BEFORE 5:30.   HIS NAME WAS NOT RELEASED AND CHARGES ARE PENDING.

STATE POLICE IN CAMBRIA COUNTY HAVE MADE AN ARREST IN THE RECENT BURGLARY AT THE SONS OF ITALY IN PATTON BORO.  33 YEAR OLD DAVID PATRICK OF PATTON IS ACCUSED OF BREAKING IN…STEALING AN UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF MONEY…DRINKING SEVERAL BEVERAGES…THEN MAKING A BIG MESS INSIDE THE BUILDING.  PATRICK HAS WAIVED HIS PRELIMINARY HEARING AND IS IN THE COUNTY PRISON.

IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY YESTERDAY, 2 DRIVERS SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES WHEN A BOX TRUCK AND A COAL TRUCK COLLIDED ALONG ROUTE 219 NEAR MAHAFFEY. STATE POLICE SAY JEFFREY COX OF JOHNSTOWN SWERVED TO MISS A CAR AND HIT THE COAL TRUCK HEAD-ON.  TERRY CRISSMAN OF DUBOIS WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF HIS TRUCK RIGHT BEFORE IT CAUGHT FIRE.  BOTH MEN WERE FLOWN FROM THE SCENE TO THE HOSPITAL.

SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE HOMELESS AFTER A FIRE AT AN APARTMENT BUILDING ALONG NICKEL STREET IN CLEARFIELD BOROUGH.  THE BUILDING IS A COMPLETE LOSS.  THE FIRE BROKE OUT AROUND 3 PM AND DESTROYED THE BUILDING.  THERE WERE NO INJURIES, BUT ONE PET MAY HAVE BEEN LOST.

IN WESTMORELAND COUNTY … THERE IS DAMAGE ASSESSMENT AND CLEANUP NOW UNDERWAY FOLLOWING AN EXPLOSION AT A METAL PLANT IN DERRY.  AN ATI SPOKESMAN SAID LAST NIGHT'S EXPLOSION AT THE ALLEGHENY LUDLUM PLANT WAS THE RESULT OF WATER COMING IN CONTACT WITH HOT METAL.  THE BLAST TOOK THE ROOF OFF A BUILDING AT THE FACILITY ON ROUTE 981.  THERE WERE NO INJURIES..

STATE POLICE HAVE MADE AN ARREST FOLLOWING A BURGLARY AT A SOCIAL CLUB.  33 YEAR OLD DAVID JOHN PATRICK OF PATTON IS ACCUSED OF BREAKING INTO THE SONS OF ITALY CLUB ON FOURTH AVENUE IN PATTON … BY THROWING A BRICK THROUGH A WINDOW EARLY ON JULY 16TH.  HE’S ACCUSED OF TAKING AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF CASH AND VANDALIZING THE STORE. HE’S NOW IN THE CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON.

GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT AND MORE THAN 100 POLITICAL SUPPORTERS ARE PLANNING TO GATHER AT THE BEDFORD SPRINGS RESORT FOR A WEEKEND EVENT BEING HEADLINED BY NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR CHRIS CHRISTIE.  CORBETT’S CAMPAIGN MANAGER, MIKE BARLEY, SAYS IT’S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR’S SUPPORTERS TO DISCUSS THE UPCOMING CAMPAIGN AND ENJOY SPEECHES BY CHRISTIE, PENNSYLVANIA SENATOR PAT TOOMEY AND CONSERVATIVE COMMENTATOR FRED BARNES.  CORBETT HELD A SIMILAR EVENT LAST YEAR.

27 YEAR OLD ERIN EVERETT OF JEROME IS AWAITING TRIAL IN SOMERSET COUNTY FOR THE 2011 BLUDGEONING DEATH OF HER HOUSEMATE, TORY MINNICK.  YESTERDAY, THE JUDGE REFUSED TO ALLOW THE DEFENSE TO PRESENT TESTIMONY ABOUT BATTERED WOMEN SYNDROME, SPOUSAL ABUSE, AND POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER.  EVERETT ORIGINALLY TOLD POLICE A MASKED MAN BROKE IN AND KILLED MINNICK.

THREE Bedford County residents have been indicted on federal charges stemming from a JanUARY 28TH burglary and theft of 31 handguns from  Saxton OUTDOOR SUPPLY.  Garrett Sherlock and Joshua Faircloth ALLEGEDLY BROKE IN AND TOOK THE GUNS…THEN POLICE RECEIVED A TIP THAT THEY WERE ON THEIR WAY TO BALTIMORE TO SELL OR TRADE THE GUNS FOR DRUGS.  AFTER A POLICE CHASE AND CRASH, THE MEN WERE TAKEN TO A BALTIMORE HOSPITAL.    KELLY Foster is charged as an accomplice.

21 YEAR OLD Michael Zaliznock IS FACING A LONG LIST OF CHARGES AFTER BEING PULLED OVER JULY 6TH IN MUNSTER TOWNSHIP, CAMBRIA COUNTY.   STATE POLICE SAY ZALIZNOCK WAS Clocked at 100 mph and he had 2 SMALL CHILDREN in the car. HE WAS ALSO Under the influence of a drug.   The kids, 2 months old and 2 years old…were RIDING in car seats AND WERE NOT INJURED.
