FIRE CREWS IN JEFFERSON COUNTY RUSHED TO A FIRE AT AN APARTMENT BUILDING THIS MORNING. THE FIRE BROKE OUT AT ABOUT 2 AM AT THE BUILDING ALONG THE 100 BLOCK OF JEFFERSON STREET.  EVERYONE WHO WAS INSIDE THE APARTMENT BUILDING WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OK.  NO WORD YET ON A FIRE.

IN FAYETTE COUNTY … IT’S NOT CLEAR EXACTLY WHY SOME RESIDENTS WERE NOT ABLE TO ACCESS 911 LAST NIGHT.  THE PROBLEM AFFECTED LANDLINES WITH THE 455 EXCHANGE IN UNIONTOWN.  THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS TELEPHONE COMPANY AND VERIZON ARE TROUBLESHOOTING THE PROBLEM.  CELL PHONES WERE NOT AFFECTED.

A SECTION OF I-80 IN CLINTON COUNTY WILL REMAIN SHUT DOWN FOR MUCH OF THE DAY, FOLLOWING A MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH IN GREEN TOWNSHIP NEAR THE TOWN OF LOGANTON.    THE EASTBOUND LANES WERE SHUT DOWN BETWEEN LOCK HAVEN AND WILLIAMSPORT EXITS.  PENNDOT HOPES TO HAVE EVERYTHING OPEN BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON.

CAMBRIA COUNTY AUTHORITIES SAY KELSEY TUNSTALL OF ADAMS TOWNSHIP WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF METHADONE AND XANAX AND HAD HER 1 YEAR OLD CHILD IN THE VEHICLE WITH HER ON MAY 17TH WHEN SHE CRASHED HEAD-ON INTO A MOTORCYCLIST ON PALESTINE ROAD.  THE BIKER IS NOW PARALYZED FROM THE WAIST DOWN AND TUNSTALL IS FACING A LONG LIST OF CHARGES.  LATER IN MAY, POLICE RESPONDED TO A DOMESTIC CALL AT TUNSTALL’S HOUSE AND FOUND DRUG PARAPHERNALIA INCLUDING EMPTY BAGS OF SUSPECTED HEROIN. SHE IS IN THE COUNTY JAIL.

SUMMERHILL TOWNSHIP POLICE SAY A 3 YEAR OLD GIRL WAS FLOWN TO CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL IN PITTSBURGH TUESDAY NIGHT AFTER SHE WAS FOUND FACE DOWN IN A SWIMMING POOL AT THE HOME OF A FAMILY FRIEND.  POLICE SAY THE CHILD WAS IN THE WATER ANYWHERE FROM 1-3 MINUTES BEFORE SHE WAS FOUND.  ONE OF THE ADULTS ON THE SCENE ADMINISTERED CPR UNTIL THE AMBULANCE ARRIVED.  CHARGES ARE A POSSIBILITY.

FOLLOWING THE FLOODING LAST MONTH, GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT YESTERDAY ANNOUNCED THAT THE U.S. SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION HAS APPROVED HIS REQUEST TO DECLARE JEFFERSON, CLEARFIELD, AND FAYETTE COUNTIES DISASTER AREAS.  RESIDENTS IN THOSE 3 COUNTIES…AND THE 14 COUNTIES THAT BORDER THEM…MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR LOW INTEREST DISASTER LOANS TO REPAIR OR REPLACE DAMAGED OR DESTROYED REAL ESTATE.  THE AREA INCLUDES BLAIR, CAMBRIA, CENTRE, CLINTON, INDIANA, AND SOMERSET COUNTIES.   DISASTER LOAN OUTREACH CENTERS HAVE BEEN SET UP AT THE DUBOIS AREA UNITED WAY AND FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF REYNOLDSVILLE.  THEY WILL BE OPEN FROM 8AM TO 5PM TUESDAY, JULY 23RD, THROUGH TUESDAY, JULY 30TH…AS WELL AS SATURDAY JULY 27TH FROM 10TO 2.

MATT SANDUSKY, HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN ARE FILING A MOTION TO HAVE THEIR LAST NAME LEGALLY CHANGED.  OFFICIALS DID NOT ANNOUNCE WHY THE REQUEST WAS MADE, SAYING ONLY THAT THE FILE IS SEALED.  MATT SANDUSKY, ONE OF JERRY SANDUSKY’S SIX ADOPTED CHILDREN, ORIGINALLY DENIED BEING ABUSED BY THE FORMER PENN STATE COACH, BUT LATER ADMITTED HE WAS, IN FACT, A VICTIM.

ANOTHER FORMER STUDENT IS SUING JOHNSTOWN’S BISHOP MCCORT HIGH SCHOOL…RETIRED BISHOP JOSEPH ADAMEC…THE ALTOONA-JOHNSTOWN DIOCESE…AND FRANCISCAN FRIARS OF THE THIRD ORDER REGULAR.  ATTORNEY RICHARD SERBIN SAYS THE MAN CLAIMS HE WAS SEXUALLY ABUSED BY BROTHER STEPHEN BAKER WHO COMMITTED SUICIDE IN JANUARY AFTER THE ALLEGATIONS CAME TO LIGHT.  SERBIN HAS FILED 5 OTHER LAWSUITS AND REPRESENTS SEVERAL OTHER POSSIBLE VICTIMS.  

OTHER ATTORNEYS ARE HANDLING THE CASES OF 50 OR MORE FORMER  STUDENTS.  28 YEAR OLD KRISTYN DEMBROSKY OF JOHNSTOWN IS FREE ON BAIL, CHARGED WITH STEALING MORE THAN 20-THOUSAND DOLLARS WHILE WORKING AT “THIS IS IT” BANQUET FACILITY IN CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP.

THE OWNER, WILLIAM KIST, SAYS DEMBROSKY WORKED AT THE HALL SETTING UP WEDDINGS AND OTHER EVENTS…AND HE STARTED NOTICING MONEY MISSING FROM HIS DESK DRAWER.  THERE WERE ALSO SEVERAL CHECKS MISSING AND MOST OF THEM HAD BEEN ISSUED TO DEMBROSKY.

THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH BOARD OF TRUSTEES YESTERDAY APPROVED A 1-POINT-94 BILLION DOLLAR OPERATING BUDGET FOR THE COMING SCHOOL YEAR AND TUITION IS GOING UP. BEGINNING THIS FALL, TUITION AT PITT-JOHNSTOWN AND THE BRADFORD AND GREENSBURG CAMPUSES WILL INCREASE 2 PERCENT FOR IN-STATE AND OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS. THAT AMOUNTS TO ABOUT 119-DOLLARS MORE PER SEMESTER.  TUITION WILL HOLD STEADYAT PITT’S 4TH BRANCH IN TITUSVILLE…AND MAIN CAMPUS IN-STATE STUDENTS WILL PAY ABOUT 225 MORE PER SEMESTER.

THOSE ENROLLED IN MEDICAL SCHOOL WILL SEE THEIR TUITION RISE 5 PERCENT.
