ONE MAN IS MISSING AFTER WHITEWATER RAFTING ON OHIOPYLE IN FAYETTE COUNTY.  RESCUE CREWS ARE LOOKING FOR A 22 YEAR OLD MAN WHO’S RAFT FLIPPED OVER AT DIMPLE ROCK AND WENT ABOUT 200 YARDS DOWNSTREAM.  THE MAN HAS NOT BEEN SEEN YET.

INVESTIGATORS SAY THE DEATHS LAST WEEK OF A MOTHER AND SON ARE RELATED BUT THAT SOMERSET RESIDENTS HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR.  THE BODY OF 79-YEAR-OLD DOROTHY ERNST WAS DISCOVERED ALONG BLUELICK ROAD IN BROTHERSVALLEY.  HER 58-YEAR-OLD SON WALTER’S BODY WAS FOUND IN BLACK.  POLICE THINK BOTH WERE KILLED SOMETIME THURSDAY EVENING.  AT THIS POINT, IT’S BEING INVESTIGATED AS A MURDER-SUICIDE.

IN ELK COUNTY … RIDGEWAY STATE POLICE HAVE CONFIRMED THAT RECENT DEATHS ARE A DOUBLE MURDER – SUICIDE.  A 7 YEAR OLD BOY AND AN 8 YEAR OLD GIRL … AND THEIR 32 YEAR OLD FATHER WERE FOUND DEAD IN A HOME ALONG ROUTE 219 IN HORTON TOWNSHIP.  THEIR IDENTITIES HAVE NOT YET BEEN RELEASED.

IN TYRONE, BLAIR COUNTY … A HORSE SPOOKED BY FIREWORKS ON THE FOURTH OF JULY RAN AWAY AND WAS STRUCK BY A TRUCK NEAR ROUTE 220 AND FIFTH STREET.  THE DRIVER WAS NOT CHARGED IN THE INCIDENT.

AN ATV WAS STOLEN ON HOGBACK ROAD IN BEDFORD COUNTY AND THEN SOLD IN ALTOONA.  AUTHORITIES HAVE ARRESTED TWO MEN THEY SAY STOLE AND SOLD THE VEHICLE.  POLICE FOUND THEIR CAR … AND THEN THE ATV.

FURLOUGHS ARE KICKING IN TODAY FOR THOUSANDS OF DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE WORKERS AT LETTERKENNY ARMY DEPOT, FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, AND MANY OTHER LOCATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THE FURLOUGHS ARE THE RESULT OF AUTOMATIC SPENDING CUTS BECAUSE CONGRESS FAILED TO REACH A BUDGET DEAL.  EMPLOYEES WILL BE FURLOUGHED FOR ONE DAY EACH WEEK UNTIL MID-SEPTEMBER.

A NASTY STORM MOVED THROUGH PARTS OF THE AREA SUNDAY AFTERNOON, DOWNING TREES AND CAUSING NUMEROUS POWER OUTAGES.  POWER OUTAGES WERE A PROBLEM IN SOMERSET, BLAIR AND CENTRE COUNTIES.
