THE CAUSE OF A CAMBRIA COUNTY FIRE HAS BEEN RULED AS “ACCIDENTAL”. THE PATTON HOME OF 64-YEAR-OLD THOMAS DUCLOS BURNED ON WEDNESDAY. A STATE POLICE FIRE MARSHAL SAYS THE FIRE STARTED IN THE BASEMENT AND WAS CAUSED BY “CARELESS ACTS”

SOME EMPLOYEES OF BLAIR COUNTY ARE EXPECTED TO LOSE THEIR JOBS DUE TO A UNION-BUMPING PROCESS BROUGHT ON BY THE SALE OF VALLEY VIEW HOME. TODAY’S ALTOONA MIRROR SAYS THAT BETWEEN FIVE AND SEVEN COUNTY EMPLOYEES WITH AS MANY AS 24 YEARS ON THE JOB COULD BE AFFECTED. THE CONTRACT BETWEEN THE COUNTY AND THE SERVICE EMPLOYEES INTERNATIONAL UNION PERMITS “BUMPING”, A PROCESS WHERE WORKERS WITH MORE SENIORITY CAN TAKE THE JOB OF LESSER TENURED EMPLOYEES, IF THEY ARE QUALIFIED AND THE JOBS ARE AT THE SAME OR LOWER PAY GRADE. THE CONTRACT REQUIRES EMPLOYEES WHO LOSE THEIR JOBS THROUGH THE PROCESS TO BE PUT ON A RECALL LIST TO BE USED BY THE COUNTY TO FILL FUTURE VACANT UNION POSITIONS.

SYNTHETIC DRUGS WERE SEIZED AT A PHILIPSBURG HOME AND STATE POLICE SAY CHARGES ARE PENDING AGAINST SEVERAL PEOPLE. THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES REPORTS THAT A 37-YEAR-OLD MAN AND 47-YEAR-OLD WOMAN, BOTH OF PHILIPSBURG, ARE THE SUSPECTS. BETWEEN APRIL 4TH AND JUNE 10TH, THE STATE POLICE TROOP G VICE UNIT INVESTIGATED ALLEGED DISTRIBUTION OF SYNTHETIC MARIJUANA AT THE RESIDENCE. ACCORDING TO THE C-D-T, ON TUESDAY, TROOPERS SEIZED SYNTHETIC MARIJUANA, DRUG PARAPHERNALIA AND CASH.

A JOHNSTOWN MAN IS FACING CHARGES FOR THREATENING FOUR KIDS WITH A WEAPON.  JOHNSTOWN POLICE SAY JEFFREY MINANNA PULLED A HANDGUN ON THE KIDS AT A HOME ON PARK AVENUE. NOW, HE FACES SEVERAL CHARGES.

FORMER STATE SUPREME COURT JUSTICE JOAN ORIE MELVIN'S LAW LICENSE IS SUSPENDED.  THE 57-YEAR-OLD IS ON HOUSE ARREST FOLLOWING A CONVICTION ON CHARGES SHE USED HER STATE-PAID STAFF TO HELP RUN HER POLITICAL CAMPAIGN.  ALTHOUGH MELVIN RESIGNED FROM HER POSITION, SHE IS APPEALING HER CONVICTION.  ORIE MELVIN HAS TEN DAYS TO REQUEST A HEARING ON HER LICENSE SUSPENSION.

A CONNELLSVILLE MAN IS RECOVERING FROM AN ATTACK DURING A HOME INVASION ROBBERY.  THE 71-YEAR-OLD VICTIM WAS PISTOL WHIPPED THURSDAY MORNING BY TWO MEN DEMANDING MONEY.  THEY TORE THROUGH THE MAN'S APARTMENT AND LEFT WITH A HUNDRED DOLLARS.  INVESTIGATORS SAID THE VICTIM WAS STRUCK NUMEROUS TIMES.

IN FAYETTE COUNTY … UNIONTOWN FIRE CHIEF CHUCK COLDREN SAYS HIS RECORD OF 40-YEARS OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT WILL NOT BE UNDONE BY A RECENT INCIDENT.  COLDREN LOST HIS TEMPER EARLIER THIS WEEK WHILE RESPONDING TO A BOMB THREAT.  SOMEONE CAPTURED VIDEO OF COLDREN SNAPPING AT A BYSTANDER, AND NOW THE VIDEO IS GOING VIRAL ON YOUTUBE.
