POLICE IN SUBURBAN JOHNSTOWN ARE LOOKING FOR A MAN …WHO DRESSED LIKE A WOMAN … AND ROBBED A BANK. IT HAPPENED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK ALONG THE 14-HUNDRED BLOCK OF SCALP AVENUE IN RICHLAND TOWNSHIP.  THE ROBBER WAS DESCRIBED AS A WHITE MAN, ABOUT SIX FEET, SIX INCHES TALL …AND HE WAS WEARING A BLACK DRESS, BLACK SHOES, CARRYING A BLACK BAG AND WEARING A RED WIG.  HE HANDED THE TELLER A NOTE AND FLED WITH AN UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF MONEY.

A CAR AND AN SUV CRASHED IN DOWNTOWN JOHNSTOWN YESTERDAY… AT THE INTERSECTION OF MARKET AND VINE STREETS IN FRONT OF THE HOLIDAY INN.  ONE VICTIM HAD TO BE REMOVED FROM THE WRECKAGE WITH THE JAWS OF LIFE.  FOUR PEOPLE WERE HOSPITALIZED. THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

A  MARYLAND MAN HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO SERVE AT LEAST NINE MONTHS IN JAIL AFTER PLEADING GUILTY IN APRIL TO HOMICIDE BY MOTOR VEHICLE.  POLICE SAY 29 YEAR OLD RONALD STREETS LOST CONTROL ON A CURVE ON ROUTE 160 IN JUNE OF 2012 AND CRASHED.  HE AND A PASSENGER … ANTHONY WINTER … WERE EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE.  POLICE SAY HE WALKED TO A HOME AND CALLED HIS FATHER AND AN EX-GIRLFRIEND FOR A RIDE AN HOUR AND A HALF BEFORE HE CALLED 9-1-1.  WINTER DIED BECAUSE OF THE CRASH.

BETWEEN 5 AND 10 – THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF JEWELRY HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM A HOME IN SOMERSET COUNTY.  STATE POLICE SAY THE VICTIM WAS RICHARD CHILDERS OF CONFLUENCE.

IN SOMERSET COUNTY COURT …  FORMER MAPLE SPRING CHURCH OF THE BRETHERN DEACON AND FORMER CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER BRIAN EPPLEY OF DAVIDSVILLE WAS SENTENCED TO 5 YEARS PROBATION.  HE PLEADED GUILTY TO CORRUPTION OF MINORS AND UNLAWFUL CONTACT WITH A MINOR.

STATE POLICE HAVE CAPTURED AN ESCAPED MENTAL HOSPITAL PATIENT WHO CLIMBED A FENCE TO GET OUT OF TORRANCE STATE HOSPITAL IN WESTMORELAND COUNTY TUESDAY EVENING.  ALTOONA POLICE AND NORFOLK SOUTHER OFFICIALS STOPPED A FREIGHT TRAIN IN THE CITY THAT NIGHT AND SEARCHED FOR 21 YEAR OLD STEVEN BARRON, BUT HE WASN’T THERE.  HE WAS FOUND ABOUT 10:30 WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN DERRY.

PENN STATE IS PROPOSING A TWO-POINT-76-PERCENT TUITION HIKE.  UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATORS SUGGESTED THE INCREASE YESTERDAY AT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES’ FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING.  THE FULL BOARD WILL CONSIDER THE HIKE AT TODAY'S MEETING.

FORMER PENN STATE UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT GRAHAM SPANIER IS TAKING FORMER FBI DIRECTOR LOUIS FREEH TO COURT.  SPANIER WILL LAUNCH A LIBEL AND DEFAMATION LAWSUIT AGAINST THE MAN WHO LED THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE JERRY SANDUSKY CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE SCANDAL.  FREEH'S INVESTIGATION REPORT SHARPLY CRITICIZED HOW SPANIER HANDLED THE CASE INVOLVING THE NOW FORMER ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH AT THE UNIVERSITY.  THE SUIT REQUESTS A JURY TRIAL AND INDICATES IT WILL SEEK MONETARY DAMAGES.
