It can be difficult to talk to teenagers about pretty much anything, but the way parents discuss weight may have major consequences.  A study found that teens whose parents talked to them about weight loss or thinness were more likely to diet unhealthily and even take laxatives to lose weight.  On the other hand, when parents talked to their kids about maintaining a healthy diet, those teens were less likely to take risky measures to stay slim.  Experts warn that family conversations about food and diet should focus on health, rather than appearance.
