Happy hour could lead to an unhappy marriage. A study found that couples in which one spouse drinks a lot more than the other are more likely to divorce than couples in which both spouses drinking habits were the same. Out of more than 600 couples, half of those in which one partner drank more than the other got divorced within the first nine years. On the other hand, the divorce rate was just 30% among couples in which both partners drank an equal amount. Experts say it’s not necessarily the drinking that causes the uptick in divorce, but the discrepancy in drinking habits between the two spouses. Couples in which both spouses drank heavily had similar divorce rates as those in which neither spouse drank a lot. Further proof that you should never drink alone.
