BOO! Halloween is an annual celebration of all things spooky. The holiday’s origins are debated among historians- some say it began as a Christian holiday marking the beginning of the period of the year dedicated to honoring the dead, while others argue it was initially a pagan harvest festival. One trademark symbol of Halloween is the jack-o-lantern, which comes from an old Irish folktale. Consumers are expected to spend a total of nearly $7 billion on Halloween this year, in the form of costumes, candy, parties and more.
