Diet Drinks Get You Tipsy!!!!

Talk about “wasted” calories. Research found that mixing alcohol with diet drinks gets you drunker faster!  In a study, people who drank vodka mixed with diet soda had a larger increase in blood alcohol content after one cocktail than those who drank the same amount of liquor with regular soda.  In fact, downing a single diet soda mixed drink was almost equivalent to having a second drink.  Experts explain that the body recognizes sugary, non-diet sodas as food and reacts by digesting the calories.  This causes the alcohol to stay in the stomach longer before entering the bloodstream (which is why you get drunk more slowly when you eat while boozing).   But with calorie-free diet sodas, the alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream more quickly, causing a quicker buzz.  While sipping diet soda cocktails may make for a cheap date, be careful or you might wind up paying for it in the morning.
