The 49th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards took place last night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The stars were all in attendance as Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton co-hosted the ceremony for the second year in a row. George Strait took home the night's top honor of Entertainer of the Year, an award he first picked up in 1989. George said during his acceptance speech, "Wow! Thank you so much. I've always said I had the best fans in the world and I heard this was a fan-voted thing, so I rest my case." He later said, "This is so amazing. It's been such an amazing past 30 years." George also thanked God, his family and his longtime label MCA Records. Miranda Lambert was also a big winner of the night, taking home the awards for Female Vocalist of the Year and Single Record of the Year for her single "Mama's Broken Heart." The award show featured wall to wall performances from some of country's biggest stars, including The Band Perry who got things started with a rousing performance of their new single "Chainsaw." During the ceremony, Strait took the stage with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to announce that next year's 50th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards will be held at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Some of the funny moments of the night included: During The Band Perry's performance, the whole crowd got blasted with confetti and everyone in the audience was covered with the little white specs. Luke pointed to the crowd and said, "There's $20 million in hairdos down here and it all has confetti in it." Bryan then quipped, "This is not a Head & Shoulders commercial everybody." The co-hosts also gave a shot out to Carrie Underwood, saying that she did such a great job in the live broadcast of The Sound of Music. They said that Underwood's performance has even inspired other country artists to take up Broadway. Luke then joked that Shelton and his wife, Miranda Lambert, could star in the Broadway play titled "Beauty and the Beast." Blake Shelton took a shot at Britney Spears, saying, "If you don't like live music, then you better go down the block to see Britney Spears." He was referring to Britney's Las Vegas residency. The co-hosts also joked about the Entertainer of the Year category, naming off all of the nominees. Blake called out his wife Miranda Lambert's name and said, "As far as Miranda is concerned I'm already entertainer of the year." Luke then quipped, "More like entertainer of the minute. And I'm spotting you 30 seconds." They also joked about the likelihood of finding marijuana in Eric Church's dressing room and took a shot at Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, pointing out the Cowboys' absence from the NFL playoffs in recent years. Merle Haggard tribute: Garth Brooks took the stage to present Merle Haggard with the ACM's Crystal Milestone Award, which recognizes the singer's 50 years in country music. George Strait and Miranda Lambert also paid tribute to The Hag by performing a musical medley of his songs "I'm A Lonesome Fugitive" and "Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down." Brooks also led the crowd in singing "Happy Birthday" to the Merle who was celebrating his 77th birthday. Some of the night's key moments were: Brad Paisley gave the national television debut of his brand new single "River Bank" during a special segment from the Las Vegas MGM Grand's Talent Pool. The stage was set up on the edge of the pool, with fans standing in the pool taking part in the party. Blake Shelton performed his brand new single "My Eyes," with Gwen Sebastian standing onstage next to him to provide backing vocals. George Strait performed his current single "I Got Car." Strait's performance got a standing ovation from the crowd. Lee Brice gave a solo acoustic performance of the 2014 ACM Song of the Year "I Drive Your Truck." Brice sat in the middle of the crowd and gave an emotional performance of the song. Eric Church gave a stirring performance of his current single "Give Me Back My Hometown." Blake Shelton and Shakira performed their duet "Medicine" from her newly released self-titled album. Lady Antebellum performed a musical medley with the legendary Stevie Nicks. The medley included Lady A's song "Golden" and Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon." Co-host Luke Bryan took the stage to perform his current single "Play It Again." The New Artist of The Year nominees performed from the stage at Mandalay Bay. Brett Eldredge performed his single "Beat of the Music," Justin Moore performed his current single "Lettin' the Night Roll" and Kip Moore performed his chart-topping hit "Somethin' 'Bout A Truck." Justin Moore got a little choked up during his acceptance speech for first-ever ACM Award for New Artist of the Year. Fellow New Artist of the Year nominees Kip Moore and Brett Eldredge congratulated and hugged Justin after he was announced as the winner. Fresh off her win for Single Record of the Year, Miranda Lambert returned to the stage to perform her nostalgic Top 10 single "Automatic." Tim McGraw took the stage to perform his new song "Meanwhile Back at Mama's." Halfway through his performance, Tim's wife Faith Hill joined him onstage to perform the remainder of the song. Florida Georgia Line took the stage with Luke Bryan at Mandalay Bay to perform their hit "This Is How We Roll." Throughout their performance, BMX stunt riders did flips over the drummer on ramps that were set up on the stage. Darius Rucker was joined by Lady Antebellum to perform his chart-topping hit "Wagon Wheel." The crowd was on their feet for the entire performance. Dierks Bentley took the stage with Sheryl Crow and gave an intimate performance of his hit single "I Hold On."
