Jimmy Kimmel’s latest on-the-street prank is funny because it’s true. The talk show host recently sent a team to Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard to ask people which new healthcare law they preferred- Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Both had strong supporters and opponents…despite the fact that they’re the same thing! And it’s not just idiots on TV- a recent CNBC poll found that about 30% of people support Obamacare while just 22% support the ACA, and 46% oppose Obamacare while 37% oppose the ACA. The name “Obama” seems to carry a lot of weight - men and Republicans are more likely to oppose Obamacare than the ACA, while it’s vice-versa for young people, Democrats, women and minorities. If you’re confused, that’s because the American public obviously is, too! Oh, and then there are the 30% who say they don’t know what the ACA is (compared with just 12% who admit they don’t know what Obamacare is). Hey, at least they’re honest.
