FEAR OF JAIL IS WHY LINDSAY CHOSE REHAB
For weeks Lindsay Lohan had been adamant about not taking a deal that involved time in rehab, yet on Monday she gave in and agreed to a 90-day stint. So what changed her mind? According to sources, the Mean Girls star, who was booked in Santa Monica yesterday on misdemeanor charges of lying to the cops and reckless driving, decided on rehab not because she needs help with her addictions, but because she’s scared of jail. In fact, Lohan insists she doesn’t have a substance abuse problem, and reportedly told friends she prefers rehab because she’ll be able to focus on herself without any outside distractions. Meanwhile, knowing she’ll be out of commission for a while, Lindsay tried to go clubbing Monday night. According to TMZ, Lindsay hid under a blanket as her SUV pulled up to the AV Club in Hollywood, but there were so many photographers there, she wound up leaving without ever going in. Lindsay later insisted it wasn’t her in the car, tweeting, “Guys relax, that was NOT me at AV or in the @Mr. Pink SUV. I'm taking this seriously and focused on the road ahead."
LINDSEY AVOIDS TIGER’S EX
After confirming they were dating on Monday, Tiger Woods brought his new girlfriend Lindsey Vonn to his daughter Samantha’s baseball game, although Lindsey didn’t get to enjoy it. Trying to avoid an awkward encounter with Tiger’s ex Elin Nordegren, Lindsey reportedly stayed in the golf star’s car for an hour while he watched the five-year-old play. Vonn was reportedly spotted in the front seat as Tiger drove away from the game. Word is, Lindsey has been staying with her new beau on his luxury yacht in Florida.
LINDSEY POKED FUN AT TIGER’S SEX ADDICTION
Meanwhile, Lindsey Vonn wasn’t always on Team Tiger. Three years ago, when Tiger Woods held his press conference to admit his infidelities, Vonn took a few jabs at him. During an interview with Time Magazine, a member of Vonn’s entourage told her Tiger ended his statement by hugging a few friends, which prompted her to joke, “they’re like, ‘yeah, you’re awesome, you go have sex.’” She later described a Saturday Night Live sketch she would have liked to do in which she would make a similar announcement. “There’s something you don’t know about me,” she said in a fake solemn voice. “Tiger you’re my idol, and I too have a sex problem.” Said Vonn, “that would be freaking funny.”
COOPER DATING 20-YEAR-OLD
Bradley Cooper claimed he wouldn’t date 22-year-old Jennifer Lawrence because he was “old enough to be her father,” yet he is now being linked to a new girl who is even younger than his Silver Linings Playbook co-star. Reports claim the 38-year-old Cooper is dating 20-year-old British model Suki Waterhouse. The couple was spotted in Boston Monday, where Bradley is filming a new movie. Sources say the pair began dating last month, after meeting at the Elle Style Awards in London.
PERRY & MAYER BREAK UP
Us Weekly reports that Katy Perry and John Mayer have called it quits. "It's sad," a pal tells the mag, adding that it might not be permanent. "It's not over until it's over. You have to see how things play out." Adds another source, "She's leaving the window open. They have both been so focused on work." Mayer and Perry began dating in the summer of 2012, but broke up in August. They reconciled in September.
OMAROSA THREATENS TO SUE LA TOYA
On Sunday’s episode of All-Star Celebrity Apprentice, LaToya Jackson shockingly insinuated that Omarosa Manigualt was responsible for the death of her fiancé, The Green Mile’s Michael Clarke Duncan. "Omarosa's fiancé passed away not long ago. He had a heart attack, I'm sure she gave it to him,” said LaToya, who later added, “(Omarosa)’s a conniving, scheming, cut-throat, probably pulled the cord on Michael Duncan Clarke.” Well, needless to say, Omarosa isn’t happy about the comment and is considering filing a lawsuit against LaToya. Omarosa’s lawyer told Radar the comments were “false, vicious and defamatory,” adding, “Rev. Manigault has been heralded as a life saver for her actions on the evening that her fiancé suffered a life-ending heart attack.” The attorney went on to say, “As her counsel, we have been directed to pursue these defamatory statements to the fullest extent of the law with LaToya Jackson and any other participating publications or media outlets who repeat or repost these statements.”
DAWSON & BOYLE OVER
Us Weekly reports that actress Rosario Dawson and director Danny Boyle have ended their year-long romance, which is making promoting their new film Trance a bit awkward. The pair, who met when Rosario was cast in the Boyle-directed flick, both appeared at the film’s press junket last weekend, and sources say they completely ignored each other. “Rosario and Danny didn't interact during interviews. It was pretty obvious they're no longer a couple,” said a source. “He was talking to a group of people when she arrived and it was awkward -- like a cold greeting, no hug, and they got through it as quickly as possible.” Trance hits theaters April 5th.
THREATENING NOTE LEFT AT RICHARDS’ HOME
Charlie Sheen’s battle with his daughter’s former school isn’t letting up. Last week, Charlie went on a Twitter tirade against the Viewpoint school in Calabasas, CA, claiming his 9-year-old daughter Sam was bullied so badly she had to transfer. Well, now Charlie says someone left a threatening note knifed to a tree outside his ex-wife Denise Richards’ home and he believes people connected to the school are responsible. “Here's why people suck; a group of mindless Viewpoint supporting doosh-bagz, have targeted D and the girls with 'bullying tactics' as a response to my call to arms,” he wrote on Twitter. “So, bullying is the answer? As a response to bullying? Leave them alone. This is not a threat but a promise, that justice will be served.” Sheen seems confident the culprits will be found, especially since the incident was caught on tape. Wrote Charlie, “FYI - we have your faces on camera. Police are involved.”
VERGARA’S FREEZING HER EGGS
Recent reports claimed Sofia Vergara and boyfriend Nick Loeb were going to have a baby through a surrogate, and while Sofia has yet to confirm the story, she does admit to taking steps so she can have a baby sometime in the future. “I have to be careful what I eat because they’re freezing my eggs,” the 40-year-old told Vogue. “They want to get as many eggs as they can because usually you produce them but they’re not good. They have to be perfect, perfect, perfect ones.” Sofia is already mother to 21-year-old Manolo from a previous marriage. As for why she’s decided to have the procedure, she explained, “My boyfriend is 37, younger than me, never had kids.” Vergara says her son Manolo is very supportive of her decision to have another baby. Said Sofia, “Sometimes he used to scream at me when he was younger: ‘Why can’t you have another baby, so you can stop focusing on me?’”
McKELLEN TO MARRY STEWART
They may play X-Men frenemies Magneto and Professor Xavier, but in real life Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are such good friends that Stewart has asked McKellen to play a very important role in his upcoming wedding. “I am going to marry Patrick,” McKellen revealed on Britain’s Jonathan Ross Show. “I am going to officiate at his wedding.” Stewart, 72, and his fiancée, jazz singer Sunny Ozell, 35, have been dating since 2009. When asked how he would legally be able to marry the couple, McKellen said, “I don’t know. But in Massachusetts, in the middle of America somewhere, you get a friend along, and I read out the words, and Sunny and Patrick will then be married. … I’ve done it once before with two guys having a civil partnership. I was crying my eyes out.”
KATIE ‘OPEN’ TO MORE CHILDREN
Katie Holmes is perfectly happy being a single mom to daughter Suri, but that doesn’t mean she’s ruled out having more kids. “I don’t know, I’m open to it,” the 34-year-old told Allure when asked about expanding her family. Katie, who divorced hubby Tom Cruise last year, poses for a sexy spread in Allure, and opens up about her hopes for the coming year. "I hope this is a peaceful year for a lot of people in the world," she says. "When you look back on the last year, there were a lot of tragedies -- Hurricane Sandy, the Connecticut shooting. I just hope it's a good year for everyone."
COWELL REFLECTS ON LIFE
Simon Cowell was doing a lot of sharing on his Twitter page Monday. First off, he addressed the upcoming seasons of X Factor, writing, “There will be a lot of changes on X factor uk and USA. But good changes. I feel excited for both shows this year.” He then got a little more personal. “And with everything I have been working on it made me realize that your friends and family are still the most important things in your life.” He added, “Sorry to cram all this in. Have read some strange things about me recently. I am happy. Healthy. And enjoying life. Hope you are too.” He finally ended by tweeting, “What I have realized is there will be bumps in your life but the fun is fixing them. If it was always easy life would be boring.”
ELMO PUPPETEER SUED
Former Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash is being sued by one of his underage victims. Sheldon Stephens says he was 16 when he met Clash at a social networking function, and they began a sexual relationship. Stephens claims Clash lured him into engaging in crystal meth-fueled sex parties that also included Clash’s chauffeur. Stephens and Clash initially reached a settlement regarding the underage sex claims, although Stephens later backed out because it forced him to say he had made up the allegations. Clash eventually resigned from his Sesame Street gig after Stephens and other young men came forward.
PALTROW SAYS DIET IMPROVED MARRIAGE
Gwyneth Paltrow claims her new diet has greatly improved her 10-year marriage to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. "You feel lighter and your emotions get smoother," the It's All Good cookbook author tells SELF of her healthy diet. The 40-year-old says she often felt “run-down” before she changed her way of eating, adding that she “had a lot of unexpressed anger. I made everyone else's feelings more important than my own. I'd suck it up and then be alone in my car yelling at traffic or fighting with hangers in my closet when they got stuck together." Paltrow says “a couple of years ago” she realized her diet affected her mental state. "My doctor, Alejandro Junger, recommended that I cut out basically everything: dairy, sugar, gluten, anything processed. I was like, 'What the f-ck am I going to eat now?'" she says. "That's why I made the book: to stop eating brown rice out of the fridge because I didn't know what else to eat -- it was demoralizing." But as crazy as her diet sounds, she insists it’s not that restrictive. "I probably eat this way two or three times a year for three weeks at a time. Past that, I'm not willing to make the sacrifice. Life is about balance," she explains. "It's good to work in healthy food, whether it's five days a week or five meals a week. And if you're going to do it, it should be awesome food you're psyched to make. But never cut out the brownies or the wine."
CRUISE LAWSUIT THROWN OUT
A lawsuit brought against Tom Cruise and his lawyer Bert Fields by Bold magazine editor Michael Davis Sapir was thrown out earlier this week. Sapir had claimed Cruise and Fields hired private investigator Anthony Pellicano to illegally wiretap him in 2001 after Sapir offered a $500,000 reward to anyone who could produce video evidence that Cruise was gay. Sapir filed a $5 million lawsuit against Cruise and Fields in December 2009, but apparently he waited too long. The judge in the case ruled earlier this week that the statute of limitations had expired on his claim.
