PEOPLE NAMES PALTROW WORLD’S MOST BEAUTIFUL
Gwyneth Paltrow has been named the World’s Most Beautiful Woman by People magazine. Paltrow, whose new movie Iron Man 3 opens May 3rd, likes to get all dressed up for public events, but at home she says she’s way more relaxed. "Around the house, I'm in jeans and a T-shirt. I don't really wear makeup. That's what [my family’s] used to," says the 40-year-old, adding that husband Chris Martin likes to kid her about it. "If I've gotten fully dressed up, he'll be like, 'Oh, wow! You're Gwyneth Paltrow!' Because he's used to seeing me in like baggy shorts and frizzy hair." Other women making People’s list include: Halle Berry, Adele, Kerry Washington, Amanda Seyfried, Zooey Deschanel, Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lawrence.
IDOL TRIED TO REPLACE CAREY WITH J.LO
American Idol has been floundering in the ratings this season, and the Hollywood Reporter claims behind the scenes producers were trying to come up with a way to solve their slide. One plan to reboot the show involved replacing Mariah Carey with former judge Jennifer Lopez, but Carey’s people quickly put the kibosh on it. According to the trade, Carey’s team threatened to sue when they heard about the plan and producers immediately dropped it, although they are in talks to have J.Lo appear on the show’s May finale. But Fox denies there was any discussion of replacing Mariah. "This is just another ridiculous Idol judge rumor, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale," a Fox spokeswoman told THR. Added show producer, Nigel Lythgoe, "I have not been included in any conversation regarding replacing Mariah with Jen this season."
FIRED ANCHOR DISCUSSES VIRAL VIDEO
A.J. Clemente, the North Dakota news anchor whose expletive-filled first day on the job went viral earlier this week, was on the Today show yesterday, where he talked about his on-air mistake, as well as his subsequent firing. Clemente said watching the clip was “gut-wrenching.” "I didn't even know I said it on camera until my news director walked in on the third break," he said, explaining that the broadcast had gone live 30 seconds earlier than expected. "It's inexcusable, first, to even say those words." And Clemente wasn’t at all surprised that he was let go from his gig. "I fully expected that they would fire me," he said. "I even called my news director after and apologized again. They did [what they had to do]. No animosity at all." [See yesterday’s About Last Night Morning for audio.]
STEWART DID NOT MEET UP WITH SANDERS
The Mail is making a big deal out of a recent picture that reportedly shows Kristen Stewart getting into a car with Rupert Sanders, the director of her film Snow White and the Huntsman. Of course, Kristen infamously cheated on boyfriend Robert Pattinson with Rupert, so there was speculation she may be doing it again. But turns out the UK press is making a story out of nothing. A source tells the New York Daily News that the guy in the vehicle isn’t Rupert. “It’s not true. It was a valet driver at Malo restaurant in Silver Lake. That’s her friend’s car,” said a source. “It’s ridiculous.”
PETTYFER UP FOR 50 SHADES OF GREY
Magic Mike star Alex Pettyfer has emerged as the frontrunner to play Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey after it was reported he shot some “test footage” with director Gus Van Sant. The Wrap reports that Van Sant, who directed Good Will Hunting, was not “officially asked” to shoot anything for Grey producers, but did so in an effort to show them how much he really wants the job. Pettyfer is said to have shot a scene in which the female lead Anastasia Steele loses her virginity to Grey (an unnamed actress played Steele). Of course, using Pettyfer doesn’t mean he’ll necessarily get the gig, although it could help him land it.
BETHENNY UPSET OVER PARENT EVALUATION
Reality show star Bethenny Frankel is reportedly upset that she is being forced to undergo a parenting evaluation as part of her custody battle with estranged hubby Jason Hoppy. Both Jason and Bethenny are requesting sole custody of their two-year-old daughter Bryn. Sources tell Radar the Skinnygirl mogul is “furious that her parenting style and methods are going to be questioned. Bryn is her whole life and she doesn’t want anyone to assess her mothering skills.” But it doesn’t look like either side is willing to give in and agree to shared custody. Said the source, “Bethenny isn’t going to give up her fight for full custody and neither is Jason.”
THE ROCK HEALTH UPDATE
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson posted a picture on Twitter yesterday to let fans know he’s doing well after undergoing emergency hernia surgery on Monday. The 40-year-old, whose new movie Pain & Gain opens Friday, is seen flexing his muscles in his hospital bed while wearing a surgical cap and a Superman T-shirt. Wrote The Rock, "Surgery a success! Dr repaired 3 hernial tears (fun pain). Superman is on the mend... #WeFallWeRise.”
MORE WACKY BEHAVIOR FROM BYNES
Amanda Bynes’ mental state seems to be getting worse. A source tells Radaronline that the What A Girl Wants star was recently “spotted wandering the halls of her New York City apartment building at all hours of the night.” The insider adds, “She talks to herself in a language that is non-sensical and has been hearing voices. Amanda is also extremely paranoid and thinks there are tracking devices in the smoke alarms in the apartment. She looks completely disheveled and she is scaring some of the other residents in the building with kids.” Insiders believe her behavior can be linked to her pot smoking. Said the insider, “It makes her more paranoid and instead of mellowing her out, it does the opposite.”
BRAFF WANTS YOUR HELP
Zach Braff is appealing to the public to help him make his next film. The Scrubs star, who wrote and directed the well-received flick Garden State, announced a Kickstarter campaign on Wednesday, hoping to raise $2 million in the next 30 days for his film Wish I Was Here, which he co-wrote with his brother Adam. Braff was inspired to launch the campaign after seeing the success Rob Thomas had raising money for the Veronica Mars movie. "I, like most of Hollywood, stared at the screen with my jaw dropped open, going: 'Oh my God, it does work,'" said Braff.
CRANSTON DISCUSSES THE END OF BREAKING BAD
Bryan Cranston has finished filming the final episodes of Breaking Bad, and says ending the show was “bittersweet,” explaining “because our characters were coming to an end, but also, the actors as a family – we are coming to an end as well.” Cranston added that fans “will be very satisfied with the end,” and also shared his thoughts on the rumored Breaking Bad spin-off featuring Bob Odenkirk’s character Saul Goodman. Said Cranston, “Oh I think it’s a great idea! and what a title! ‘Better Call, Saul.’” The final season of Breaking Bad premieres August 11th.
STUDIO CLAIMS FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS IN MAD MEN SUIT
Lionsgate has fired back at a lawsuit filed over the opening credits of AMC’s Mad Men. Gita Hall May, a model featured in the credits, sued in Los Angeles superior court claiming the studio did not have permission to use a photo of her from a 1950s Revlon ad shot by famed photographer Richard Avedon. But Lionsgate claims her suit violates the company’s first amendment rights. They argue that the picture appears in the credits “for slightly more than one second,” and “has been altered and combined with dozens of other creatively altered images also taken from period advertisements and with new creative elements." For this reason, they say, the credits fall under the realm of constitutionally protected speech.
