WAHLBERG & AFFLECK REACT TO ATTACK ON HOMETOWN
Monday’s Boston Marathon attack hit close to home for some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Boston native Mark Wahlberg was in New York for the premiere of his new movie Pain & Gain, but his mind was definitely elsewhere. "I really didn't even want to come tonight,” he said on the red carpet. “I hadn't really heard much -- I spoke to my mom, and most of my family seems to be okay. It's such a big event, there's so many people there. It's horrible man. It's f---ing disgusting, man. I just -- I'm very upset.” He later added, “The world obviously needs to change. If you think about all the events over the last couple years, if we can't protect our innocent women and children, then we have a serious problem." Another Massachusetts native, Ben Affleck, expressed his thoughts on Facebook. "Such a senseless and tragic day," he wrote. "My family and I send our love to our beloved and resilient Boston."
OSWALT’S MOVING NOTE GOES VIRAL
Just hours after the Boston Marathon bombings, comedian Patton Oswalt penned a moving letter about the attack, which he posted on Facebook and has since gone viral. "I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, 'Well, I've had it with humanity,'" his note began. "But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths." He continued, "But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out." Finally, wrote Oswalt, “So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, ‘The good outnumber you, and we always will.’"
DAMON PENNED LOVE LETTER TO MARATHON
On the Sunday before the Boston Marathon, the Boston Globe ran excerpts from an essay written by Matt Damon about the importance of the race to his family. Damon called it, “a sporting spectacle like no other" where "a palpable bond exists between audience and athlete, forming a distinctive stew of sympathy and suffering that has lasting effects for both parties." His dad ran the race in 1980, and Damon says, “I’ll never forget standing there in the crowd with my brother, Kyle, as we looked first for Bill Rodgers [a four-time winner in the 1970s], and then, in the very same race as some of the most talented runners on earth, our smiling (and grimacing) 40-year-old dad." Damon’s brother Kyle also ran the race, a total of four times.
MacFARLANE BLASTS EDITED FAMILY GUY CLIP
Seth MacFarlane took to Twitter yesterday to blast a Family Guy clip circulating on the internet that suggests the show’s March 17th episode predicted a bombing at the Boston Marathon. In the edited clip, which was posted to a right-wing conspiracy website, the show’s lead character Peter Griffin is asked how he won the marathon and it appears as though he uses a cell phone to detonate two explosions. The scenes did not appear together in the actual episode, and were not connected in the show’s plot. MacFarlane is furious over its existence and tweeted yesterday, “The edited Family Guy clip currently circulating is abhorrent. The event was a crime and a tragedy, and my thoughts are with the victims.”
OZZY DENIES DIVORCE RUMORS, ADMITS ADDICTION PROBLEM
Amid speculation about the state of his marriage, Ozzy Osbourne took to Facebook Monday to deny he and Sharon were divorcing, but he did admit that he’s fallen off the wagon. “For the last year and a half I have been drinking and taking drugs,” admitted Osbourne. “I was in a very dark place and was an a**hole to the people I love most, my family. However, I am happy to say that I am now 44 days sober.” As for his 31-year marriage, Ozzy wrote, "Just to set the record straight, Sharon and I are not divorcing. I'm just trying to be a better person." Finally, Ozzy said he “would like to apologize to Sharon, my family, my friends and my band mates for my insane behavior during this period…and my fans.” Meanwhile, Sharon was in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico over the weekend, where she enjoyed a little pampering. Reports claim she is currently living at the Beverly Hills Hotel, while Ozzy is staying at a rented home a few miles away.
DOWNEY, JR. IS SURE HE’LL WIN OSCAR
No one can say Robert Downey, Jr. is a humble man. In a new interview with GQ, the Iron Man star calls himself one of our “best actors” although he does say, “it’s not like this is the greatest swath or generation of actors that has ever come down the pike.” Downey, who admits he earned close to $50 million for The Avengers, is so confident in his abilities, he’s sure he’ll win an Oscar someday. “That’s just a fact. I, personally, would be shocked if we went to the end of the tape now and I didn’t have at least one… Because it just doesn’t make sense,” he said. “Even if I don’t get one directly, eventually they’re just going to have to give me one when I get old. So no matter how you slice it, I’m getting one.”
MAGIC’S SON ON COMING OUT
Magic Johnson’s 20-year-old son E.J. says he’s surprised by the publicity he’s gotten since it was revealed earlier this month that he was gay. "I always wanted to come into the spotlight," he said in an interview on the YouTube talk show Gwissues. "I always had dreams and plans of doing my own thing and creating my own image, so it came a little sooner than I thought it would but this is still something I knew I would be going through and would have to experience." E.J., a junior at New York University, says he’s received a lot of support from the public, as well as some criticism. "It's almost like they're attacking me for being me and so to that I can only say, 'Well, I can only be myself, so I don't know really what you want me to do,’" he said. E.J. reveals that he came out to his mother Cookie first, and then to his dad a bit later, but both parents were completely supportive. "I told her how I was feeling and she obviously told me that she had known and always would love me anyway. The same thing happened with my dad like a year or so later," he said. "Everyone has to get used to it. No parent is prepared 100 percent and fully for something like that. We all had to work and move forward."
GWYNETH TOPS MOST HATED CELEB LIST
Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t seem like the most approachable person out there, which may explain why she’s topped Star magazine’s list of the 20 Most Hated Celebrities. Coming in at number two is Kristen Stewart, who infamously cheated on boyfriend Robert Pattinson last year. Jennifer Lopez landed in the number three spot, followed by John Mayer and Katherine Heigl. Rounding out the Top Ten are: Matt Lauer, Madonna, Justin Bieber, Anne Hathaway and Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian (tied for 10th).
SELENA CRITICIZED FOR WEARING BINDI
Selena Gomez has come under fire for wearing a bindi symbol on her forehead during her performance at the MTV Movie Awards Sunday. “The bindi on the forehead is an ancient tradition in Hinduism and has religious significance," Rajan Zed, a spokesman for the Universal Society of Hinduism, said. "It is also sometimes referred to as the third eye and the flame, and it is an auspicious religious and spiritual symbol... It is not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed. Selena should apologize and then she should get acquainted with the basics of world religions."
COOPER LIVING WITH MOM
Bradley Cooper may come off as a ladies’ man, but believe it or not, he still lives with his mom. He tells Details magazine that his current living situation is certainly unique. "The best way I can answer that is to say we're surviving. Both of us," says Cooper, 38. "Let's face it: It's probably not easy for her, by the way, to be living with her son. It's life. And right now, two years after my father's death, this is where we are. My family is very close, and my dad dying was brutal for all of us. It was a schism, and its aftershock has not stopped. And we need each other. So here we are.” But living with mom isn’t always easy. “It's not like I live in a compound and she's in the guesthouse,” he says. “No. She's in the next room. But here's the thing: She's a cool chick. We can hang, and she can roll with the punches. If that wasn't the case, there's no way."
KERR EXPLAINS SPLIT WITH VICTORIA’S SECRET
Supermodel Miranda Kerr has confirmed that she’s no longer under contract with Victoria’s Secret. “This is a natural evolution," she tells The Sydney Morning Herald of her departure. "The thing is, I've been modeling since I was 13. I'm now entering a new phase in my life. I have felt this coming since my son was born and, after I became a mother, I realized I needed to prioritize my time." The 29-year-old says she has just too many other projects on her plate to commit to being a Victoria’s Secret Angel. 'I'm just not in a position to commit to a full contract at this time," she said. "It's three months at a bare minimum."
BLUNT ON MARRIED LIFE
Emily Blunt may be a movie star, but she tells InStyle that she and hubby John Krasinski don’t exactly have the most glamorous life. "I spend my life in sweatpants and covered in mud," says Blunt, who admits to letting the couple's oversized lab, Finn, sleep in bed with them, which leaves her with little space. "I have an enormous husband – he's 6'3"! – and an enormous dog." Blunt and Krasinski have been married for three years, and she can’t help but gush about her love. "Meeting John really changed my life," she tells the magazine. "When I feel the support I have from him, I feel invincible. There's someone behind you on your good days, and someone in front of you on your bad days."
TV chef Gordon Ramsay is being sued over an outstanding appliance bill. According to TMZ, Ramsay spent $191,235.24 on high-end appliances for his L.A. restaurant Fat Cow, but has failed to pay the complete balance. The company that supplied the appliances to Fat Cow has filed a lawsuit against Ramsay claiming they are owed $45,350.35.
SEYFRIED MISSES HER CHEST
Les Miserables star Amanda Seyfried tells Allure magazine that she misses the boobs she had when she was a teenager. "I saw a picture of them a couple of days ago from when I was 19, and my boobs were way bigger. They were a D, and now they're a small C, because I lost weight," says the 27-year-old. "There was something so beautiful about the size of them. When I look back, I'm like, 'Why did I always give myself such a hard time?' Nobody gave me sh-t about it except me." And while Seyfried is perfectly happy with her figure, she does admit her chest can be problematic. “They do get in the way a lot," she says. "Like, I wear a really small, tight sports bra when I go running . . . because they want to smack my chin."
