Knowing a few retailer secrets can help you SAVE BIG around the year, as long as you don't want the most up-to-the-minute style or model.

Winter Apparel: In January and February, believe it or not, retailers are already wanting to stock shelves with Spring merchandise, so now is the time to score big on winter coats. Be sure to shop early for the best selection.

Cameras: New camera models usually come out in January and February, when trade shows reveal their new wares to the best advantage.

Garden tools: Shop from February to April for up to 50-percent off on rakes, hoes, shovels (dirt -- not snow) and other garden implements at places like Home Depot.

You don't have to wait for holiday blowout sales to find a good deal on a television. The best deals can be found in the spring when new models are released. The fiscal year ends in March for most Japanese companies and new-model year releases typically coincide with the new fiscal year. Discounts of up to 20 percent are offered on previous year models.
