CADAVER DOGS SEARCHING
HUNTINGDON COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY GEORGE ZANIC SAYS CADAVER DOGS HAVE HIT ON “POINTS OF INTEREST” AS THEY SEARCH FOR THE BODY OF 23 YEAR OLD SHERRY LEIGHTY OF ALTOONA WHO DISAPPEARED IN 1999. THE SEARCH WILL CONTINUE TODAY AT A FARM NEAR WARRIORS MARK OWNED BY SHERRY'S FATHER-IN-LAW, KENNETH LEIGHTY. LAST WEEK, POLICE RECORDED A PHONE CALL IN WHICH HE ADMITS KILLING SHERRY, BUT HE CLAIMED IT WAS AN ACCIDENT. HE ALSO SAID THE BODY WAS ON HIS PROPERTY ALONG THE FENCE ROW. WHEN POLICE TRIED TO TAKE KENNETH IN FOR QUESTIONING, HE ATTACKED THEM AND HE’S NOW IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON.
MURDER TRIALS UNDERWAY
THE MURDER TRIAL OF AN INDIANA COUNTY MAN CONTINUED YESTERDAY IN WESTMORELAND COUNTY. 52 YEAR OLD KEVIN MURPHY OF CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP IS CHARGED WITH KILLING HIS MOTHER, SISTER, AND ELDERLY AUNT INSIDE HIS AUTOMOBILE GLASS SHOP 4 YEARS AGO. A co-worker told jurors Tuesday that just days before the MURDERS, a gun was brought into the shop so Murphy could kill a trapped raccoon.
IN INDIANA COUNTY COURT, THE MURDER TRIAL OF 33 YEAR OLD SHAUN FAIRMAN IS UNDERWAY. HE’S CHARGED IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF 55 YEAR OLD RICHARD SHOTTS LAST SUMMER. AUTHORITIES SAY FAIRMAN WENT TO THE HOME OF HIS ESTRANGED WIFE’S PARENTS, IGNORING A PROTECTION FROM ABUSE ORDER. JESSICA FAIRMAN SHOT HER HUSBAND WHEN HE CAME AT HER. ON THE STAND YESTERDAY, SHE SAID SHE BELIEVED FAIRMAN NEEDED MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT AND HE HAD THREATENED TO KILL HIMSELF IN THE PAST.
FORMER COP’S SENTENCING DELAYED
FORMER ALTOONA POLICE OFFICER DUANE EICHENLAUB’S SENTENCING HAS BEEN DELAYED UNTIL MAY 24TH NOW THAT HE HAS A NEW ATTORNEY. THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT HE IS NOW REPRESENTED BY TIM BARROUK OF HARRISBURG. EICHENLAUB WAS CONVICTED OF AGGRAVATED ASSAULT FOR BEATING 2 MEN AT PELLEGRINE’S LOUNGE IN 2010…AS WELL AS TRYING TO COVER UP THE INCIDENT. FORMER COP ERIC KRINER PLEADED GUILTY TO REDUCED CHARGES. HE’S SERVING 4 YEARS PROBATION.
PIG DIES IN BARN FIRE
IN CAMBRIA COUNTY, A fire early tUESDAY morning destroyed a Gallitzin Township barn and killed a pig. the barn belonged to Ted Balzano. The cause is under investigation but is not considered suspicious.

Western Pennsylvania drivers are paying 8 cents less per gallon this week as the average fell to $3.56. Pennsylvania ranks 24th in the country for the state average at $3.49. The lowest price today is Wyoming at $3.33 and the high is Hawaii at $4.36. Today’s national average is $3.52, a penny less than one week ago and 16 cents less than one month ago.

STATE TURNPIKE OFFICIALS HOPE TO HAVE CHARGING STATIONS AT ALL 17 SERVICE PLAZAS IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THE INITIAL LOCATIONS ARE OAKMONT PLAZA IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY…NEW STANTON IN WESTMORELAND COUNTY…BOWMANSVILLE IN LANCASTER COUNTY…AND KING OF PRUSSIA PLAZA IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY.
