CANOEIST IDENTIFIED

AUTHORITIES HAVE NOW IDENTIFIED THE 19 YEAR OLD man WHO WAS found dead in the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in CLEARFIELD COUNTY ON SUNDAY. CURTIS MARTIN OF LEBANON WAS PART OF a church canoING trip. HE REPORTEDLY JUMPED OR FELL FROM HIS CANOE MAY 17TH WHEN IT WAS HEADED FOR A ROCK IN FAST-MOVING, 41 DEGREE WATER. an autopsy WAS PERFORMED MONDAY, but a toxicology report will TAKE 4 TO 6 weeks.

Arrest IN SHOOTING DEATH

 

A MURDER IN INDIANA COUNTY SUNDAY EVENING…AND NOW An arrest has been made. 59 YEAR OLD James Buterbaugh IS charged with homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment, after allegedly shooting 51 YEAR OLD David Ackerson in the abdomen.STATE POLICE SAY The 2 Grant Township residents arguED at Ackerson’s home On  Buterbaugh Road. THE SHOOTING TOOK PLACE AT a nearby gas well road. Buterbaugh Is in the County Jail.

 

CRESSON MAN KILLED IN PRISON

 

22 YEAR OLD RONALD YARBOUGH OF CRESSON WAS AN INMATE AT THE STATE PRISON IN WAYNESBORO WHEN HE WAS STRANGLED BACK IN JANUARY. NOW HIS CELLMATE, 24 YEAR OLD RAPHAEL SPEARMAN OF PHILADELPHIA, HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL HOMICIDE. Prison public information officer Tracy Shawley said the 2 had been housed together for a very short time in SCI-Greene's special needs unit, which houses inmates with mental, emotional or physical disabilities.

32 YEAR OLD MATTHEW PARKS OF HOLLIDAYSBURG IS DUE AT A PRELIMINARY HEARING TODAY. THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS HE WAS TRYING TO AVOID HIS 6TH D-U-I ARREST EARLIER THIS MONTH WHEN HE JUMPED FROM A 2ND FLOOR WINDOW OF A 4TH AVENUE APARTMENT. HE HAD BEEN HIDING THERE AFTER FLEEING FROM A TRAFFIC STOP IN DUNCANSVILLE.

PARKS SUFFERED A BROKEN BACK WHEN HE JUMPED, BUT HE WAS RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL THAT NIGHT AND LOCKED UP IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON.

HE WAS ALSO DRIVING with a SUSPENDED LICENSE AND NO INSURANCE.

 

REPAIRS AT VANDALIZED CEMETERY

 

Thousands of people went to Boalsburg yesterday to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Memorial Day. just a few weeks ago, vandals knocked over gravestones dating back to the 18-hundreds at boalsburg cemetery, causing 100-thousand dollars in damage. the owner of the bellefonte bonfatto’s restaurant recently hosted a barbeque at the firehouse and raised more than 11-thousand dollars for the “Save the Graves” campaign. most of The headstones have been repaired now, but there is still some more work that needs done. Harris Township supervisors are offering a 3-thousand dollar reward for information leading to an arrest.

 

CORBETT GAINING GROUND?

 

A poll shows a small increase in support for Governor Tom Corbett among likely Pennsylvania voters. The Robert Morris University Polling Institute poll gives Corbett a 30-point-8-percent favorable impression compared to 29-point-4 in February. A spokesperson for the governor says Corbett "has been keeping his promises and getting the state's finance in line" and he says the decisions have not always been popular or easy. Corbett is in the race against York businessman, Democrat Tom Wolf.
