FLAGS FLEW AT HALF STAFF OUTSIDE NORTHERN BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL YESTERDAY IN MEMORY OF 15 YEAR OLD Kaleb Rightenour OF MARTINSBURG. THE SOPHOMORE DIED AFTER CRASHING his quad DURING A RACE at the Blair-Bedford Dirt TRACK Saturday night. STUDENTS ALSO CREATED A memorial inside THE BUILDING. Services WILL BE HELD later this week.
CENTRE COUNTY STANDOFF
A man IS IN police custody after A STAND-OFF MONDAY IN PLEASANT GAP, CENTRE COUNTY. THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES SAYS THE SUSPECT barricadED himself in his family’s South Main Street home for about 2 hours. Pleasant Gap Elementary School and the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology were locked down AND TRAFFIC WAS DIVERTED UNTIL POLICE WERE ABLE TO negotiate HIS surrender. POLICE WILL not confirm WHETHER a weapon WAS FOUND in the home, BUT THE INCIDENT IS BEING HANDLED AS A FAMILY CRISIS AND no charges ARE pending.
Step-father suspect in toddler’s death
The Indiana County District Attorney plans to file homicide charges against 27 YEAR OLD JUAN CAMPBELL OF BLAIRSVILLE IN CONNECTION WITH THE DEATH OF his young step-son. Police saY 20-month-old Malachi Patterson was found bruised and unresponsive early Friday morning at Campbell’s apartment. THE TODDLER DIED SUNDAY MORNING AT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL IN PITTSBURGH. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, HIS MOTHER, JAMIE LYNN CAMPBELL, WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOLLOWING THE BIRTH OF ANOTHER BABY. Campbell remainS in THE COUNTY jail.
SCHOOL BUS DRIVER INJURED
A CAMBRIA HEIGHTS SCHOOL DISTRICT BUS driver was taken to the hospital after hitting a tree Monday afternoon along Route 36 between Patton and Chest Springs area. POLICE SAY MORE THAN 20 students on the bus were NOT INJURED. THE investigatiOn CONTINUES.
SHEETZ BRIEFLY EVACUATED
The Sheetz STORE ON 17TH STREET IN ALTOONA was evacuated Monday afternoon after a SILVER BRIEFCASE was found on the curb outside of the main entrance. Police were able to contact the owner and situation was resolved, then the store re-opened.
BALD EAGLE SHOT & KILLED
The STATE GAME COMMISSION IS LOOKING FOR THE PERSON WHO SHOT a bald eagle WITH A SMALL CALIBER RIFLE in ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP, Cambria County. AUTHORITIES SAY A group of A-T-V riders found the injured bald eagle on May 10TH. A GAME COMMISSION OFFICER TRIED TO GET IT TO A VET CLINIC IN STATE COLLEGE, BUT IT DIED ON THE WAY THERE. Bald eagles are no longer on the endangered species list, but they are classified as a threatened species in Pennsylvania. Anyone with information should call 1-888-PGC-8001. There is a reward for information that leads to an arrest.
