PHILIPSBURG MURDER/SUICIDE –

STATE POLICE CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE A MURDER/SUICIDE THAT HAPPENED THURSDAY MORNING IN PHILIPSBURG. THEY SAY THAT 51-YEAR-OLD FORMER STATE TROOPER MARK MISCAVISH OF PHILIPSBURG WENT TO THE COUNTY MARKET IN THE PEEBLES PLAZA AT ABOUT 10 A..M. AND USED A SHOTGUN TO KILL HIS ESTRANGED WIFE, 49-YEAR-OLD TRACY MISCAVISH. MISCAVISH THEN TURNED THE GUN ON HIMSELF.  CENTRE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY STACEY PARKS MILLER SAYS THAT MISCAVISH WAS FACING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CHARGES IN CONNECTION WITH AN ARREST IN JANUARY FOR AN ASSAULT AGAINST HIS WIFE. TRACY MISCAVISH FILED FOR DIVORCE LAST WEEK.

 

THREE ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY –

STATE POLICE IN HUNTINGDON ARRESTED THREE PEOPLE ON DRUG CHARGES WEDNESDAY AT THE HUNTINGDON MOTOR INN .MOTEL STAFF REPORTED THREE SUSPICIOUS GUESTS. POLICE SAY THEY FOUND HEROIN, COCAINE AND OVER $6700 IN CASH IN ROOMS AND CARS AND ARRESTED 29-YEAR-OLD KEVIN CRESWELLOF MOUNT UNION, 22-YEAR-OLD HANNAH WYCOFF OF THREE SPRINGS AND 35-YEAR-OLD EDWARD SCOTT OF WILLOW HILL, FRANKLIN COUNTY THEIR PRELIMINARY HEARINGS ARE SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY. ESTIMATED VALUE OF THE ALLEGED DRUGS IS $35,000. STATE POLICE WERE ASSISTED BY THE HUNTINGDON COUNTY DETECTIVE BUREAU AND THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE.

 

CHARGES FILED IN CONNECTION WITH MISSING GUN –

ON THURSDAY, STATE POLICE IN HOLLIDAYSBURG  FILED CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY CHARGES AGAINST THREE 17-YEAR-OLD BOYS IN CONNECTION WITH A MISSING HANDGUN THAT WAS TAKEN FROM A HOUSE IN TYRONE LAST YEAR. THEY SAY A JUVENILE TOOK THE GUN FROM HIS PARENTS’ HOUSE IN ANTIS TOWNSHIP LAST NOVEMBER AND HID IT IN A WOODED AREA OF WALKER LANE. THE GUN WAS GONE WHEN HE WENT BACK TO GET IT.  HIS PARENTS THEN CONTACTED POLICE. THE GUN HAS STILL NOT BEEN RECOVERED. IT IS A KIMBER CUSTOM ECLIPSE MODEL 1911 STYLE 45 ACP HANDGUN VALUED AT $800. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CONTACT STATE POLICE IN HOLLIDAYSBURG.

 

STATE COLLEGE BUSINESS OWNER SENTENCED –

A STATE COLLEGE BUSINESS OWNER ENTERED A GUILTY PLEA YESTERDAY TO THREE FELONY COUNTS OF POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE THE DRUG “BATH SALTS” OUT OF HIS DOWNTOWN SHOP. JOHN O’KEEFE, WHO OWNED “DRAGON CHASERS EMPORIUM” WAS SENTENCED TO 11 AND A HALF TO 23 MONTHS IN THE SCHUYLKILL COUNTY PRISON IN POTTSVILLE. THE THREE CHARGES ARE FOR SEPARATE COUNTS AGAINST O’KEEFE IN THREE DIFFERENT COUNTIES. HE ALSO OPERATED STORES IN POTTSVILLE AND BERKS COUNTY.

 

WOMAN CRASHES INTO HOUSE -

 A CAMBRIA COUNTY WOMAN IS FACING D-U-I CHARGES AFTER SHE CRASHED INTO A HOUSE IN COALPORT EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. POLICE SAY 23-YEAR-OLD AMANDA KAUFMAN OF FALLENTIMBER LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED HER S-U-V INTO THE HOME OF RONALD JASPAR ON MAIN STREET IN COAPORT. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED MOVING AND ROLLED SEVERAL TIMES. ACCORDING TO POLICE, KAUFMAN WAS TOO INTOXICATED TO PERFORM FIELD SOBRIETY TESTS. THEY SAY HER BLOOD ALCOHOL CONTENT WAS .21%. TWO PASSENGERS IN KAUFMAN’S VEHICLE WERE TAKEN TO ALTOONA REGIONAL FOR TREATMENT.

 

PSU RECRUIT CHARGED –

A KEY PENN STATE FOOTBALL RECUIT IS FACING CRIMINAL CHARGES. POLICE IN SUSQUEHANNA TOWNSHIP HAVE FILED MULTIPLE CHARGES AGAINST FORMER CENTRAL DAUPHIN LINEBACKER ZAYD ISSAH AND TWO OTHERS FOR AN ALLEGED SCHEME TO PASS COUNTERFEIT MONEY AT A McDONALDS. ISSAH WAS CHARGED ON MARCH 10TH WITH TWO FELONY COUNTS OF FORGERY AND CONSPIRACY ALONG WITH FOUR MISDEMEANOR THEFT BY DECEPTION CHARGES. A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SET FOR MAY 9TH.

 

EVACUATION IN WINDBER –

LAST NIGHT IN WINDBER … A CAR HIT A GAS METER AT ABOUT MIDNIGHT, CAUSING THE LINE TO BREAK.  ABOUT A FOUR BLOCK SECTION OF GRAHAM AVENUE … INCLUDING SOME BUSINESSES AND A TRAIN … HAD TO BE EVACUATED.  THE GAS COMPANY CAME QUICKLY AND FIXED THE PROBLEM.  ONLY ONE BUILDING NEEDED TO BE AIRED OUT. OFFICIALS SAY THE CAR WAS JUST BACKING UP WHEN IT HIT THE GAS METER.


NEW  LEGISLATION PROPOSED FOR FAMILY LEAVE -

A PENNSYLVANIA SENATOR IS INTRODUCING LEGISLATION THAT WOULD PROVIDE A MORE COMPREHENSIVE PARENTAL LEAVE PLAN IN THE STATE.  SENATOR DAYLIN LEACH SAYS THE BILL WOULD GIVE MOTHERS AND FATHERS OF NEWBORNS, WHO WORK MORE THAN 20 HOURS A WEEK AT COMPANIES WITH AT LEAST 20 EMPLOYEES, UP TO 12 WEEKS OF LEAVE AT FULL PAY.  LEACH SAYS PAID FAMILY LEAVE IS SOMETHING THAT ALL PARENTS IN PENNSYLVANIA DESERVE.
