LAWMAKER’S FUNERAL TOMORROW

State Representative Dick Hess OF BEDFORD COUNTY WILL BE BURIED TOMORROW IN SAXTON. Hess died Friday AT A PITTSBURGH HOSPITAL following complications from leg surgery. FRIENDS WILL BE RECEIVED TODAY FROM 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 at Timothy Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford…and ALSO TOMORROW from 10 until 2 at Akers Funeral Chapel in Saxton. The funeral SERVICE FOLLOWS. Hess will be buried at Grandview Cemetery. ACCORDING TO THE PENNSYLVANIA ELECTION CODE, HIS SEAT WILL REMAIN EMPTY FOR AT LEAST 2 MONTHS UNTIL A SPECIAL ELECTION CAN BE HELD. HESS SERVED THE 78TH DISTRICT FOR 26 YEARS, COVERING ALL OF FULTON COUNTY AND PARTS OF HUNTINGDON AND BEDFORD COUNTIES. NO WORD YET WHO MIGHT SEEK THE OFFICE. THAT PERSON WILL SERVE LESS THAN A YEAR BEFORE THE NOVEMBER 2014 ELECTION.

A motorcyclist died yesterday following a 3-vehicle accident on Route 985 in Somerset Township. According to “The Daily American,” 58-year-old Scott James rear-ended a stopped car that was waiting to turn left. His passenger, 29-year-old Valerie James, fell into the opposing lane and was hit by another vehicle.

Route 22 near Williamsburg was PARTIALLY closed for SEVERAL HOURS Sunday after a tractor trailer rolled over just before 10am. State Police say MARK SMITH OF TENNESSEE was SPEEDing down the hill and HE Lost control OF HIS RIG, WHICH HIT A GUIDERAIL, AN EMBANKMENT, AND A BERM…THEN flippED onto ItS passenger side. SMITH was tAKEN TO UPMC Altoona. THE investigatiOn CONTINUES.

JORGE NATAL-SANCHEZ OF LEWISTOWN WAS FLOWN TO UPMC ALTOONA SATURDAY NIGHT AFTER CRASHING HIS CAR ALONG HILL VALLEY ROAD IN SHIRLEY TOWNSHIP, HUNTINGDON COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY NATAL-SANCHEZ STRUCK GUARDRAILS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD THEN RAN INTO THE SHRUBBERY. HE SUFFERED SERIOUS INJURIES.

Altoona cop CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

27 YEAR OLD ALTOONA POLICE OFFICER MATTHEW PLUMMER SPENT ABOUT 2 HOURS IN THE WASHINGTON COUNTY JAIL SUNDAY MORNING. THE ALTOONA MIRROR SAYS PLUMMER WAS CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AFTER A FIGHT AT A KID ROCK CONCERT IN BURGETTSTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT. NO FURTHER DETAILS ABOUT THE INCIDENT HAVE BEEN RELEASED. NO COMMENT YET FROM CITY OFFICIALS.

ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING

ALTOONA POLICE ARE STILL INVESTIGATING AN ATTEMPTED CHILD ABDUCTION THAT HAPPENED Around 11:30 Friday morning in the area of North 12th Street and North 4th AveNUE. aN OLDER, WHITE, HEAVY-SET male TRIED to LURE a young GIRL WITH CANDY…THEN GRABBED HER WRIST AND TRIED TO PULL HER INTO HIS WHITE MINI-VAN. The suspect WORE GLASSES AND HAD grey hair AND A LONG GREY GOATEE WITH NO MUSTACHE. The VEHICLE HAD yellow streaks and damage on the rear. WHEN The girl SCREAMED, HE LET GO AND SHE RAN WAY. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION SHOULD CALL POLICE AT 949-24-69.

WINDBER STABBING

27 YEAR OLD AARON GILL SPEND THE WEEKEND IN THE SOMERSET COUNTY JAIL, CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE. PAINT TOWNSHIP POLICE SAY GILL, WHO is listed as homeless, stabbed another man in the shoulder and back Friday night inside the Windber Slovak Club. The victim is expected to RECOVER. Gill CLAIMS the victim owed HIM 155-DOLLARS, but the victim told police he didn't even know Gill. BAIL IS SET AT 100-THOUSAND DOLLARS.
