COLLEGE STUDENT KILLED BY HER FATHER
19 YEAR OLD LAURIN EDWARDS OF THE SUBURBAN PITTSBURGH AREA WAS GETTTING READY TO RETURN TO CLASSES AT ST. FRANCIS UNIVERSITY IN LORETTO, WHERE SHE WAS A SOPHOMORE, STUDYING TO BE A PHYSICIAN’S ASSISTANT. YESTERDAY MORNING, LAURIN’S FATHER, JAMES, SHOT AND KILLED HER AND THE FAMILY DOG. HE ALSO wounded his wife and son BEFORE TAKING HIS OWN LIFE. A special mass was held ON CAMPUS YESTERDAY IN Laurin’S HONOR. ANOTHER IS SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY EVENING…AND the university WILL HAVE GRIEF COUNSELORS AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS. LAURIN’S BROTHER, 21 YEAR OLD JAMES, IS ENROLLED IN THE PHARMACY PROGRAM AT DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY. HE AND HIS MOTHER ARE LISTED IN CRITICAL CONDITION, BUT THEY ARE EXPECTED TO SURVIVE.

A CAMBRIA COUNTY JURY WAS SEATED YESTERDAY FOR THE VEHICULAR HOMICIDE TRIAL OF 38 YEAR OLD BRIAN ROLES OF East Taylor Township. POLICE SAY ROLES WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND PRESCRIPTION DRUGS WHEN HIS PICKUP crashED LAST YEAR, KILLING HIS SON, BRIAN ROLES JUNIOR, WHO WAS A SOPHOMORE AT CONEMAUGH VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL. Roles WAS drivING WITH A suspended LICENSE DUE TO A PREVIOUS D-U-I charge.

A BLAIR COUNTY JURY YESTERDAY CONVICTED 77 YEAR OLD DON ICKES OF FISHERTOWN ON MISDEMEANOR COUNTS OF RESISTING ARREST AND HARASSMENT FOR AN INCIDENT 2 YEARS AGO. ICKES FIRST REFUSED TO PULL OVER, THEN WOULDN’T GET OUT OF HIS CAR. HE WAS PULLED OUT SCREAMING AND CRYING. HIS LICENSE PLATE HAD BEEN ISSUED BY THE KINGDOM OF GOD, NOT THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA. ICKES LATER CONTACTED THE TROOPER AND HIS MOTHER AND TRIED TO FILE CRIMINAL CHARGES. THE JUDGE ALSO FOUND HIS GUILTY OF 14 TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS, FINING HIM 12-HUNDRED DOLLARS. WHEN HE’S FORMALLY SENTENCED ON THE OTHER CHARGES IN NOVEMBER, ICKES WILL GET 3 YEARS PROBATION.
EMERGENCY LANDING IN CAMBRIA COUNTY
A PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE NOT HURT YESTERDAY AFTERNOON WHEN THEIR plane made an emergency landing at the John Murtha/Cambria County Airport. The pilot, a 22-year old from Bedford County notified the airport of complications and began dumping fuel…THEN HE was able to land WITH JUST MINOR DAMAGE TO the AIRCRAFT.
